Re: Communication

Jan and I have been trying to standardise on Zoom. It works well and has the usual handy sidelines like a chat board and screen sharing. It also works on all systems. Argghhhh ... yet another form of communication in which messages can get lost! In all seriousness, we used it for an extended family...

Communication

Prompted by some comments in the COVID-19 thread. In response to comments about different ways of keeping in touch, I'm optimistic that this accellerated takeup of various technologies might also help accelerate the development of associated conventions and etiquette - although i do fear it will bec...

COVID-19

So, COVID-19 has caused Staines Movie Makers to cancel all meetings until further notice. Given the demographic of most clubs I suspect we are not alone. It has meant the cancellation of our Annual Inter Club which has been held since 1973 and normally attracts 7-11 clubs. Well, not cancelled as suc...

Re: Cemriac worcester march 1

Thanks Jill for your enthusiastic and detailed report, particularly of Jon's talk. As for making money out of YouTube, great for the people who want to - but for me it has all the downsides of being a professional filmaker/cameraman/runner. That is you have to make & market what people want to pay m...

From memory Edius allows export of a soundtrack ...
And this morning I receive an email from said user that she's managed to work out how to export a wav file from Edius!

Thank Dave.

Extracting Audio

I have a club member who wants to process some audio with Izotope RX7 Elements (after my demo of Standard). She came to extract the audio from her video file only to discover the two NLEs she has (Edius and Premiere Elements) will not allow her to do so. I'm not familiar with either so assume she is...

Re: UNICA and the age old question

but when people complain that "Cinematography" is an archaic word, which no one uses normally and whose meaning is a bit fuzzy in the common mind, Really? I see it (over) used all the time. Most of the time in the context of "make your shots look more cinematic" (the meaning of which is, admitedly,...

Re: UNICA and the age old question

I think that Howard-Smith has really hit on something here. The definition that he quotes is us EXACTLY! As an adjective could not avocationary fit the bill? I got the dreaded red line when typing that so maybe not. IAC would then still be the apt initials. The beauty is it is the same definition a...

Re: IAC MUSIC LICENCE

But the BIAFF judges hardly ever commented on the music I'd used. I try Howard, I try. No-one has ever mentioned the music when I've created it either - whether that's from scratch (eg Tudor Rap) or using downloaded MIDI files as a basis (as Greece is the Word) - although in those cases they do men...

Re: IAC MUSIC LICENCE

It absolutely does not cover internet use, Roy, as stated in red in the middle of this page https://www.theiac.org.uk/iac/copyright/copyright-clearance-scheme.html You Tube is generally not a problem as they have deals with various publishers allowing its use in return for some revnue from advertisi...

Re: IAC MUSIC LICENCE

Indeed you can. This is just as well as the IAC manages to obtain sponors prizes of CDs of production music for various events including BIAFF (and I've been fortunate enough to receive some). This does not come with any licence so unless you have the IAC (or other) licence, it's of no practical use...

Re: UNICA and the age old question

Howard's suggestion has the added benefit that, beginning with the same letter as Amateur, many existing abbreviations could be used. On the downside, I only see it as a noun rather than an adjective wheich means it can't really be used to describe what we might previously as described as an amateur...

UNICA and the age old question

UNICA President Dave Watterson has raised the old chetnut of what we call ourselves again in his recent UNICA newsletter: "I make a plea for one right now: we cannot call ourselves “amateur” or “non-professional” because both of those adjectives are commonly equated with poor quality. Please let us ...
