Re: BIAFF 2021 - should we even hope?
Whilst I'm sure this isn't a democracy and we here are but a few select members anyway, I too would be in favour of postponing the British International (including the EU) Film Festival until we can have a live event. I've enjoyed several online meetings/festivals and I hope and suspect this method ...

Re: Sad news: RIP Reg Lancaster
I didn't know Reg very well, but he always made me feel like we were old friends. As I posted elsewhere, I once locked him in Laleham Village Hall, when he was in the gents, believing everyone had left. It was only when Annabel couldn't get into the car that we noticed

I really hope it is is, Michael. Not just a memory for the IAC but so important for you.Michael Slowe wrote: ↑Fri Oct 30, 2020 6:20 pm When they wanted a bronze bust of him some years later for a trophy I think, my wife, who was a sculptor, was asked to make it. It must be around somewhere I imagine.

Re: BIAFF ONLINE ...
Willy, I'm sorry you were one of thiose suffering technical gremlins. To be honest I was surprised so many people did, given the way it seems we've all had six months of practicing with Zoom and other on-line chatter. But it's easy for me to forgeta as I've been involved since March with schools com...

Re: Voice Over Actors?
Or put the temporary edit on a smartphone? Even more portable (but possibly not so useful if both the director (you) and the talent need to see the screen.

Re: Voice Over Actors?
Presumably the words aren't going to change. You could record the voiceover yourself, edit (even a roucgh edit) the video to that and send your V/O artist the video. I do this whenever I'm producing a video with a voiceover - even my own voice over. Think of it as like a guide vocal in music recordi...

Re: Voice Over Actors?
Surely the key is in the name, voice over actor.
You'd direct them the same way as you'd direct any actor, translating the expressions of emotions and sounds you have in your head into sounds from the actor. Or am I over-simplifying?

Re: BIAFF ONLINE ...
Worked fine for me. Obviously lacking in atmosphere and (in my case) not as good sound, but on the other hand I could pause if needed and can now watch films from other sessions. On the other hand, very difficult not to be distracted at home (when there are people around who are not interested in wa...

Re: Peculiar Camera Mounts
BTW this is the film I made with footage from the improv tripod (plus some handheld and some on a little gorillapod). A wholly satsifying little film. My wife has decided we should visit the fells, but I think one look at this will put her off - great scenery, but I doubt she'll be up to the walkin...

Re: Peculiar Camera Mounts
There was another 'peculiar' shot I did with this Lumix compact camera and the fan, but I don't have a photo of it. I'd definitely take up Ned's suggestion of writing an article for FVM - even if it's only a half-page (indeed it might be more successful as a short piece with bullet points and photo...

Re: Peculiar Camera Mounts
Two examples of inginuity. The ladder trick is straightforward enough, but another to file away for future reference, but the spinning coin is real thinking outside the box. We used to have a club member (long since deceased) as many clubs have who could turn his hand to any minor engineering feat. ...

Re: AGM Zoom meeting
Hi Ned, I thought it worked well. I'm not sure how much you missed. 12-12.40pm was the formal part of the meeting, adopting the accounts. accepting reports and electing Coumcil. Discussion ("Members' Voices") began at 1pm. I don't think you joined long after that. I know you said your bit ...

Re: Manifesto for Change
Nevertheless, Jameela - I think that's just about the only point on which we disagree! I do agree (as do most people) change is needed. I particularly like the idea of a database for members access and I certainly think it's worth exploring further the idea of only three stars and up being awarded/p...

Re: Manifesto for Change
Ah but... In an abstract sense, yes filmmaking skills are independent of the purpose or the intention of film, but our purpose or intention becomes inherent in our approach to the technical issues... If one person considers this an engaging spare time hobby, and another person using similar equipme...
