Re: Da Vinci Resolve 15 & possibly 16

I've used it and like the workflow. I struggled with it (and gave up) for a 2hr theatrical production, but I put this down to lack of perseverance and the fact I've used Vegas for 14 years. I did not find it as good as Vegas for audio (then again, I don't think anything is as good as Vegas for audio...

Re: Jameela Boardman's Article FVM October 2019

I'm not sure becoming a 'members-only' club would help, because the same issues apply. My only reason for suggesting that was that I was under the impression (from comments from the Council at AGMs I have attended) that the few suggetions from the floor were quashed due to the fact they would been ...

Re: Jameela Boardman's Article FVM October 2019

You make good points, John, and I'm sure I'm not alone in remembering you making them before. Admittedly I've only attended a few AGMs but as I understand it, whilst we may be struggling year on year with funding, we actually have a lot of money in the bank. The question must be how best to invest t...

Re: Jameela Boardman's Article FVM October 2019

Contributors to this forum thread may genuinely believe the 'competition culture' is inclusive for all, but I say it is not -- as I have previously explained why. Jameela, you are inferring something from what you have read without justification. What I, and others, have said here is not that the "...

If we took notice of the non-competitive Glastonbury Festival, we might actually be able to go big and make some money, thereby have several paid staff!
It's almost as if you haven't read John Roberts' response (point 6) in this thread.

Re: Jameela Boardman's Article FVM October 2019

Well worth discussing all of those, Ned. I presume you mean pay for the Director of Festivals from the cost of producing the magazine, rather than the editor. If we move the magazine online - which would have a much higher visibility than BIAFF - in my view it is essential we have expertise in a pai...

Re: Jameela Boardman's Article FVM October 2019

I think Jameela and I are never going to agree about "hobby". I think she has a very different perception of the word than I and everyone I've discussed it with. As for "serious" ... thousands of hobbyist astronomers around the world continue to contribute enormous amounts to our understanding of wh...

Re: Jameela Boardman's Article FVM October 2019

I do think the word "hobby" is a problem! You need to see it how younger people will see it... Old folks doing their hobby! I think the problem with that phrase is "old folks" rather than hobby. They feel, with some justification, that if we "old folks" had been any good at our hobby we'd have made...

Re: Jameela Boardman's Article FVM October 2019

2)The comments in this thread - I hope a Council member or a Forum member can summarise this discussion for the next issue of FVM so that it will be read by many more members. If no-one has time, I'll volunteer. Rather than that - give them just a taster and get them to come here , read all the com...

Re: Jameela Boardman's Article FVM October 2019

Ground rules; in an age of increasing rudeness a requirement for for mutual respect is not out of place. On one of our local film making Facebook pages the opening statement is "Be kind...." I don't object to that, Ned. That's fairly common on most websites/forums etc. I just think putting it upfro...

Re: Jameela Boardman's Article FVM October 2019

In recent years my club has dropped four of its five competitions and replaced them with ‘Challenges’. Whilst I can see the appeal of this to some people and I wholeheratedly applaud you for trying this approach, I think we have to be very careful that in encouraging one group of people we do not d...

Re: Jameela Boardman's Article FVM October 2019

I'm delighted you've responded Jameela, and enterd into the spirit of the discussion. As I said in the follow up to my first post, there may be a perception issue here so we can at least agree on that. Not wishing to put you on the spot (and indeed anyone can join in) let's deal with what I see as f...

Re: Exterior Filming in the 'North' this Summer

Most people seem to like engaging with social media, but it is not for me. I can totally understand not wishing to engage with social media, but if that's where the "new generation" is, that's likey to be the most productive sea in which to fish. It seems to suit what is popular, not that which is ...

Re: Exterior Filming in the 'North' this Summer

John, if by "new generation" we are talking about younger people, I think you'll find most under about 35 now shun Facebook and everything is Instagram (at least this is what I'm told by the next generation in my extended family who range in age from 14 to 32). However Facebook seem sto work well fo...

Hmmmmm. I wonder what would happen if someone from NW Region (or East Anglia, come to that) submitted a couple of films, stating they were the region's entry.
