Re: BIAFF 2021 RESULTS
Just to reassure people who have been asking ... There will be a small change in BIAFF timetables on Saturday afternoon. The BIAFF festival online screenings will take a long break on Saturday afternoon to allow those who wish to do so, to observe the one-minute silence at 3pm and to watch the funer...

Re: BIAFF 2021 RESULTS
Jan and I have long thought that BIAFF is a little too miserly with 5-star awards. When you have seen what's on offer at BIAFF 2021, perhaps we can discuss that more.

That is yet more sad new, Howard. The two of them were great ambassadors for A-V and helped bring sequence-makers and film-makers together. They were also extraordinarily kind people.

Re: BIAFF 2021 RESULTS
Jan and I are also itching to get the results online ... David Newman is running extremely late this time round, but he should be checking the listings now ...

Re: BIAFF 2021 RESULTS
Working as a projectionist at the BIAFF judging weekend one year, I watched in wonder as Reg Lancaster began by voicing strong criticism of a film, then over a few minutes talked himself (out loud) into the opposite opinion. It was such an impressive display that no one was going to dissent from his...

Re: BIAFF 2021 RESULTS
Congratulations to all. Anyone who can even finish and submit a film to competition is doing well! I have not wanted to disturb David Newman to ask about why the results are slow in coming, but having seen a couple of his emails I note he is not just saying that someone's film will be shown at BIAFF...

Re: How do you learn to make better films?
The higher the standard of technique, the more I comment on the story/plot/audience-experience. For club contests or films at lower star levels I may throw in the occasional comment about technique, but only if the problem has distracted me from the content of the film.

The current rules state: This competition is for films made by individuals or groups for pleasure and not for commercial gain. The following are, however, permissible: 1) Films made by IAC regions and clubs for the benefit of those organisations. 2) Public or private exhibition and sale, where the p...

Tim is a good teacher ... in my stumbling efforts with Movie Studio Platinum a few years ago, he was the person I turned to for help. He gave generously and some day I may even finish a film!

Re: Manifesto for Change
The BIAFF Rules were revamped some years ago, partly in response to Ned's argument that what matters is whether or not a film was made with the intention of making money. The current rule is: This competition is for films made by individuals or groups for pleasure and not for commercial gain. The fo...

Re: Sad news: RIP Reg Lancaster
IAC received this message from Annabelle Lancaster: I’m really sorry that people are unable to attend Reg’s funeral in person but you can follow it on line if you so wish. The funeral notice below, supplied by the funeral director, gives a number of details and instructions. Please do take care of y...

BIAFF 2021 - should we even hope?
Officially BIAFF 2021 is scheduled for Birmingham on 16-18th April 2021 - with an online version as the standby option. Given the state of things now (at the end of 2020) does anyone think it likely we will meet in person then? If not would it be better to postpone - as we did last year - in the hop...
