Re: UNiCA 2025 in BIRMINGHAM Aug 17-22
How was UNICA 2025? Most of our overseas visitors seemed to enjoy it. The films were as good as always and as varied as always. People loved Birmingham's cultural zone: Brindley Place, Centenary Square, Chamberlain Square and Victoria Square. Many, many people commented on the friendliness of Birmin...

Re: Memories of MICHAEL SLOWE
I keep trying to decide which were my favourites of Michael's films. Hounds and the Huntsman is outstanding. It is even more remarkable because he shot it on his own ... often with that huge, heavy wooden tripod he loved. The Leader of the Pack On Silk Pelicans of Guana Ski Break but my overall favo...

Re: Memories of MICHAEL SLOWE
Thanks, Ned and Ken.
I believe that John Howden will also write something for FVM. In fact it might be nice if many of us sent some memories about him. Martin could have a special "Memories of Michael" edition alongside the usual notices and reports.

Memories of MICHAEL SLOWE
Following the sad news of Michael's death, it would be good to post some memories of the man and his films. Most of us know at least a few of his films. Some of us were lucky enough to know him personally. So far as I know, his last appearance on film will be in the film which will open UNICA2025. I...

Re: Old equipment
Good point ... and as most of us on this forum are aging something we should all consider. New kit is expensive, but often the reason we don't change is because we feel too tired to tackle learning how the new stuff works. Ironically it often works better and more easily than the old. Of course what...

Re: BIAFF 2025 - results and more
More may be available in time, but if the film makers are putting them into other festivals they tend not to have their whole film online ... indeed some festivals insist on that.

Re: Club presentations
Were any of you on the recent IAC show evening when they were "Zoom bombed"?
Is that going to be a risk for long-distance internet talks?

Re: BIAFF 2025 - results and more
Am I the only person being confused about ordering BIAFF tickets? I hoped for at least a couple of "package deals": (a) all the films (b) all the films plus the dinner & chips. No. Each part has to be separately booked and the Saturday dinner proclaims "AWARDS" but means the ...

Re: BIAFF 2025 - results and more
So far not much comment on the results overall. Howard Smith who is a regular on Facebook seems generally satisfied with his results: 5 films with 4* rating and one with 3* rating. Robin Slater: "Honoured to be selected for the British International Amateur Film Festival, together with the Five...

Re: Club presentations
I agree that there is nothing like a live Tom performance!
In general we still seem to be suffering from the long-term effects of lockdown. Too many clubs are meeting only or sometimes on Zoom.
