Re: COVID-19

Newcastle ACA has postoned all meetings until we get the all clear. Having a daughter who has been in the thick of this out in the far east and ourselves not long back to the UK from Korea, I urge all clubs not to meet up, most of our members are extremely vulnerable because of their age. we will ge...

Re: Hard disk drive failure

windows 10 really punishes your drive so beware if you have ssds as they have a finite number of writes... as we film makers tend to backup our footage to external drives (you do do backups dont you ?!!) with only the OS stored on the C drive (the ssd) it can now be replaced for 20 sobs or so and cl...

Re: From tape to memory card

Thanks Michael... interesting that the LTO has a long run yet..... its at version 07 at the mo and specs are out for 10. as you say its for pro houses and bears no resemblance to our dinky DVtape but its an interesting observation that they trust tape .. in a former life with the MoD I used to archi...

Re: From tape to memory card

some good stuff in this thread... I still own the trusted Z5 which has just been fully serviced, the viewfinder monitor fixed (common fault) and the sensor cleaned. Better than new as it does seem even quieter than before especially the tape mechanism and zoom. I also own the Sony AX100 4k with SDXC...

Re: Sad News - Howard Gregory

Sad news indeed.... Until meeting Howard I had never met anyone with the breadth and depth of his audio knowledge. He helped me a great deal in my quest for better audio understanding and was a welcome visitor to Newcastle ACA with his powerpoint presentations and excellent CDs on Mics etc. He made ...

Re: Use of Replica Firearms

Re: WIN.7 time and date display

Will be interesting to see what happens when most go over to MS 8.1 then alleged free upgrade to win 10 next year. .. wonder how many 3rd party companies have the resources to re write software/drivers based on the appalling support of backward compatibility from MS alone... just ask MS xbox 360 / x...

Re: WIN.7 time and date display

Hi Tim 3 scanners and 2 printers later believe me it is true.... 100%  all but the last very.... nay... VERY expensive Canon scanner (no win7 driver/support so runs on XP only) the previous hardware went in the bin contacting the suppliers gets you nowhere ... why should they develop ...

Re: WIN.7 time and date display

This is a typical case Roy and a method manufacturers' use to stimulate users to junk perfectly good hardware as they will no longer commission new software drivers. I have a state of the art canon scanner which is also not supported in win7 / 64... I keep an old laptop in the cupboard with xp on an...
