Re: THE BIRMINGHAM FILM FESTIVAL

To reply to Tim, my perception was that the vast majority of entries were from amateur filmmakers not professionals. There was only one film I saw on Tuesday which appeared to be a professional production, called The Overcoat. The people I chatted to on my table at the awards were all amateurs and I...

Re: THE BIRMINGHAM FILM FESTIVAL

Here's my report about the BFF (The Birmingham Film Festival) Gala Awards evening on Saturday evening at The Canalside, The Cube, Birmingham. It was an enjoyable event which was streamed live on the BFF Facebook page. I'd estimate there were about 150 people present. We sat at round tables seating 1...

Re: THE BIRMINGHAM FILM FESTIVAL

I did find the first 10 minutes tedious, in addition to my problem with the subject matter. Anyway I’m looking forward the Gala Awards on Saturday. It’s good to have those nominations but I suspect that A LOT of films have had similar nominations in order to encourage as many as possible to attend t...

Re: THE BIRMINGHAM FILM FESTIVAL

Thanks Tim for your comments. But let me explain about my walk-out after 10 minutes of a film entitled THE JOURNEY HOME. During that particular 2.00 pm session I'd just sat through an unpleasant 50 minute film called GUILTY PLEASURES, loosely based on the Rotherham abuse news stories. As mentioned, ...

Re: THE BIRMINGHAM FILM FESTIVAL

I saw my film Hollie projected today during the midday session in a MASSIVE screen at the Millennium Point cinema in Birmingham. Only 17 in the audience and the sound was too loud for all the films but nevertheless it was an honour for the film to be shown at all. The 2 pm session was two tedious 50...

Re: THE BIRMINGHAM FILM FESTIVAL

Many thanks Willy! You are so kind.
Of course I haven't yet actually WON any awards at the Birmingham Film Festival but it's great to have two nominations and to have my film officially selected. I shall find out how I've fared during the Awards ceremony which is Saturday evening 24th November.

Re: THE BIRMINGHAM FILM FESTIVAL

Thanks Tim. Yes, a lot of the film festivals charge an entry fee and then reject one’s entry without any refund or feedback. But I’m prepared to ‘gamble’ a few entry fees for the occasional acceptance.

THE BIRMINGHAM FILM FESTIVAL

Has anyone had any experience of THE BIRMINGHAM FILM FESTIVAL? This year it’s being held from 20th to 25th November at the Millennium Point cinema in the city centre. Having had my films rejected for so many festivals via Film Freeway, I’m rather pleased that one of my 4 star award winners at BIAFF ...

Re: BIAFF 2018 AT HARROGATE

Yes, thank you for those words Tim; I agree we should all welcome Martin Evans on board. It was due to me that Martin found out about the IAC and BIAFF and he had several entries at BIAFF including a 4 star award winner. I found out about him via his former piano teacher who is a friend of mine. Mar...

Re: BIAFF 2018 AT HARROGATE

The three films that I appreciated the most were: SMILE - An impeccably made Geoff Harmer drama. TIM & TOM - A great, brisk, funny German comedy. ANNIE WAITS - Pacy, charming, clever. Loved it. I personally would have chosen this as best film. I was involved with the judging of SIGNIFICANT WITNESS a...

BIAFF 2018 AT HARROGATE

The attendance numbers were down but, with regard to those of us who were present for BIAFF in Harrogate, what are our thoughts on the event? I’ll make my own comments on individual films in a later message but for now I’ll say that it was as ever an extremely enjoyable event, really well organised,...

Re: BIAFF 2018 RESULTS

Thank you very much Michael Slowe for the Prosecco on Saturday lunchtime. Much appreciated. And it was good to see so many forum users present.

I should be ok for that, Michael, thank you. Straight after the last of the Saturday morning shows then. Cheers!

Re: BIAFF 2018 RESULTS

Hopefully all the results will be on the website any day now. Dave Watterson usually gets wind of when this is going to happen... what can you tell us, Dave?
