Re: UNICA 2024 in Poland
STONE at BIAFF, SILVER at UNICA Yesterday my friend Werner Haegeman said that his movie "Elise by the Sea", 3 stars at BIAFF, changed into silver at UNICA in Poland. I am very happy for him. Is there anyone else who deserves it more than Werner? In "Elise" Werner shows his sense ...

Re: UNICA 2024 in Poland
My Belgian clubmate Werner Haegeman will attend UNICA together with his wife An. His movie "Elise by the Sea" has been selected. It got 3 stars at BIAFF, but was one of the 5 winning films at the National Festival in Belgium. I have good memories of UNICA in Blankenberghe (Belgium), Zeist ...

SERIAC Brian Dunckley : Great hobby in safe hands
Corona, brexit, politics, heated discussions on the BBC... Hated everything... We could only see the beauty of the English countryside online, in "Escape to the Country" and other programmes. It was time to cross the Channel again. 25 May. Vera and I wanted to soak up the friendly atmosphe...

Re: Touting for films
Touting for films... I didn't know the word "touting". On the internet I found: "promoting or advertising films in an enthusiastic way." Taking part in discussons on the forum can also be useful to improve my vocabulary". The last few months I received many FilmFreeWay messa...

Re: BIAFF 2024 - yes or no?
I agree with you, Tim. I am very happy about the things Albert has written. I was totally wrong. My apologies, Albert.!!!! Albert wrote: "Although the subject matter is not for me"... I "translated" it by: "although it's not my taste"... , but that was not the end of hi...

Re: BIAFF 2024 - yes or no?
Many thanks, Albert. You have watched "Hubertus" with a sharp eye. I agree with your remark about the zoom. That's only 2 or 3 seconds. Length of the film is 19min30. But I appreciate that you have told me this. If I would edit "Hubertus" again I would delete that zoom. I am also...

Re: BIAFF 2024 - yes or no?
Strange, but I could not enter the forum for some time anymore. Are there any other friends who had this problem? But, I am back! The English version of my film "HUBERTUS" is on YouTube The link is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M2VZr3UdHQs I would be grateful if you could critise it. My ...

Re: BIAFF 2024 - yes or no?
The English top-judge also wrote: "From 30 years I've aways claimed that any judge who says the film is too long has no right to be a judge. It's the sloppiest get-out line in any review. It might apply in the one minute competition, but apart from that it does not apply. Every film is exactly ...

Re: BIAFF 2024 - yes or no?
I received feedback from a BIAFF top-judge some weeks ago. Two pages, Michael, but I will only copy the first two sentences: "Willy, you have produced a mini-masterpiece, really you have. "Hubertus" is a most remarkable film, full to the brim with gorgeous variety, super photography, ...

Re: BIAFF 2024 - yes or no?
Yes, I remember that once you received one star, Michael, but certainly it was not for "Hounds and the Huntsman". Imagine, they would have killed your hunting-dogs. I always know which movies would have a chance to deserve an award. That's also what you said some years ago, Michael. Vera h...

Re: BIAFF 2024 - yes or no?
Many thanks for saying this, Dave. Good to hear that the UNICA-judges will not be baffled by unusual scenes. But "Elise" is just very entertaining. There is no reason to be baffled. Only to be surprised. I have heard that there will be three judges at Unica. Is that right? I remember Zeist...

My friend Werner Haegeman has sent a message to me with 'Good News'. His movie "Elise at the Seaside' (3 stars at BIAFF) has been selected for UNICA in Poland.

Re: BIAFF 2024 - yes or no?
I have always enjoyed making documentaries or eductional films. For BIAFF they needed to be subtitled, of course. That's a big disadvantage for foreigners. I can imagine that judges are tired after 7 or 8 movies and then they have to watch a subtitled film of 19 minutes, even with enough silent mome...
