Re: Classification
Regarding the power of local authorities to "overrule the decision of the BBFC" - this is true - but first there has to be a decision by the BBFC. We're still stuck with: "The Video Recordings Act (VRA) defines the supply of DVDs as ‘supply in any manner, whether or not for reward, an...

Re: Classification
I've just received advice from a barrister friend of mine, Deputy Justices' Clerk at the city Magistrates' Court (which means 'most senior lawyer'). She says: "Just looking at this while my magistrates are out on their decision after a trial - so I haven't had chance to look at this in any grea...

Re: Classification
In practice the laws are intended to stop the supply of video nasties. I cannot imagine any Trading Standards Officers (they are the main enforcers of the legislation) bothering about our videos. Actually Dave, I don't think restriction on the supply of 'video nasties' is the primary reason for the...

Exactly what constitutes 'Amateur'?
Although I've been a personal member of the IAC for several years, only in the last couple have I dared submit films to BIAFF - a competition, of course, for amateur fillms. I've been approached in the last couple of months by a local man who runs his own corporate film-making business. He makes doc...

Muzzle flashes
I don't have After Effects or C4D, just a NLE editing program (Edius 6)... and Photoshop and Macromedia Flash & Fireworks in their Studio 8. I want to apply muzzle flashes to a couple of scenes where a handgun is apparently fired. I've had a look at YouTube which has lots of advice - for how to ...

Re: Green Screen on location?
Just to round off this discussion, I can tell you we filmed the scenes at Whitwell & Reepham Railway, who were very obliging - apart from providing a loco and carriages and moving them as required, they also lit up the BBQ and got out the real ale - 'Whitwell Wobbler' was - perhaps fortunately -...

In Edius right-click on a clip in the timeline. From the menu which appears, choose "Time Effect" From its sub-menu choose Speed lo-and-behold in the dialog box are options for "forward" or "backward". Dave, are you conversant with Edius? If so I wonder if you can tell...

Now tell us more about this crane ... Thanks for the advice, one and all. The crane I imported from South Carolina, Bargain-Camera Inc - see http://www.bargain-camera.com/store/Camera-Cranes-Jibs/ It came with a heavy-duty tripod stand, and three four-foot sections, permitting either 8' or 12' plus...

Re: Computer Monitor
I've just bought an LG E226V-PN from DCL (Digital Components Ltd, http://www.dclstore.co.uk), via Amazon at £129.99. It's a 16:9 22" monitor with inputs for VGA, DVI, HDMI, and has a beautiful bright, clean display. Worth looking at, in my view.

Oh, silly me!
Just noticed your enquiry was dated five years ago.
Why don't they clear out old messages?

Re: Which camcorder should I buy?
I've just been given a small camcordere for my birthday, with a view to it travelling on holiday in cabin baggage. I am thrilled with it. One feature I wanted, and which you might not think you need, Dave, is compatibility with my broadcast-quality Panasonic AG-HMC41, which records AVCHD/H.264 1080P...

Re: Green Screen on location?
Thanks, Mike. I do have Pinnacle Studio 15 HD Ultimate as well as Edius, so could use it if it seemed preferable. Edius is a bit like a complicated puzzle, and intriguing: it's pro s/w that I'd like to master, just for my own satisfaction - I suppose, like those people who derive pleasure from solvi...
