Look at the film strip in the gate area - does it show a cutout where the perforations should be? The word "EXPOSED" will also be printed at the end of the film next to the cutout if the cartridge has been finished. But if it has been exposed then being Kodachrome it'll be fine - I'm sure...

With all due respect I think that you have failed to understand the point that I have been trying to make. I'm sure that you keep your films preserved in an exemplary fashion. I am not questioning the practices at your institution. Your original comments were directed towards Juliet. In my opinion t...

We have no vinigering in any of our stock and our earliest acetate stock dates from 1935. In that case your collection of films is exceptional were that statement to be true. Purchase some A-D strips as that is the only way to tell for sure, you can't rely on sniffing it etc. It is highly unlikely ...

There is an ENORMOUS body of information out there attesting to the truth of what I am saying. I have no experience with Nitrate film, so I won't comment. With Poly based film such as one might find many commercial prints on, I'm sure that you may well be correct. However sealing in acetate based fi...

Hi all. I'm interested in buying Super 8 cameras. Roy - What do you have for sale? Let me know and I may make an offer. They are best stored in a cool dry envirorment preferrably in airtight cans or sealable bags. This is most definitely NOT the best practice: acetate films as used for home-movies s...

Why not try AXCO instruments, although I'm not 100% sure if they're still trading.

But the biggest difference that strikes me most often is that Kodachrome (as advertised by Paul Simon) retains its colours so beautifully over the years, whereas all other films gently shift towards grizzly shades of magenta or cyan or even simply end up as all the reds. I guess that we are both ap...

Fair enough Tom, I guess that what I should have said was "I personally believe that in terms of colour rendition it looks better than K40" . It is fair to say that in some other respects it is inferior to K40, grain being an example. If you gave me the choice between shooting a cart of K4...

We've used all manner of super 8mm including negative stock on limited work but the fact remains the cost of any other super 8 usage is double that of K40. That simply isn't the case - 64t is available process-paid in the UK for £19.99, which by any reckoning isn't double the cost of the old K40 pr...

Even Widescreen's process-paid service doesn't take the cost below £20 (but it's appreciated). At Blue Audio Visual we sell Ektachrome 64T in a process-paid at £19.99 - which is a full penny under £20! The Widescreen Centre use the same lab as we do, but are more expensive. As to the 'poor results'...

Funnily enough Super 8 seems to be really popular again these days, even though it has become even more expensive to use than it ever was over the last couple of years. I've sold pretty nearly 2000 cartridges in the last year, so there IS demand out there! I'm even considering getting into selling S...

Which version of the 1014, Ned? I'd be interested in a 1014XLS, come to think of it I might be interested in your 16mm!

Who is still shooting on Super 8 or 16mm?

Hi there, I'd just like to introduce myself, as this is my first post on the forum. My name is Bart Smith, and I run a long-established shop based in London called Blue Audio Visual, which specialises in traditional filmmaking and projection gear (Super 8, 16mm etc.) How many members out there are s...
