Re: Forum chat in FVM
Ah yes Albert but AI won't lead you to an interesting documentary subject, nor will it shoot it for you. The art world is becoming alarmed by the possible use of AI and who can trust videos and photographs now, bad times ahead, I'm glad to be 'very old'! If you are very old Michael, I am very, very...

Re: Forum chat in FVM
AI is also slowly making story and film script writing obsolete. I found this web site which will write a story for you. You can choose the outline subject and degree of creativity and many other elements you would like included and it's length. I had some fun trying it out, but it's not yet up to C...

Re: Sensible lighting kit for beginners ... with not much money
The huge issue with candles - whether used for practical lighting or as set-dressing is continuity. Some professionals had a crew member burning sets of off-camera candles to different degrees so that they could match the ones in vision if the makers went back to shoot another angle or just to a ne...

Re: Sensible lighting kit for beginners ... with not much money
That's true Dave, but I can imagine a film made where, say, a man and a woman are talking, close to each other, just by the light of a single flickering candle which is always in sight. Then a third person is seen just hovering near them. The candle light only just revealing a very dim face. The can...

Re: Sensible lighting kit for beginners ... with not much money
Here's a challenge....... Make a film using only the light from the Sun. The shadows cast can be imaginatively used when Sun is low in the sky and it's a cheap form of lighting! Or the moon......." Moonlight becomes you." (old song) The match competition.......films made entirely by match ...

Re: IAC Website
Martin, the magazine that you refer to, Moviemaker, was the successor to Movie Maker which in the 60s and 70s was published by Fountain Press and edited by Tony Rose and Alan Cleave. It was the mainstay of non commercial film making and promoted and ran the wonderful competition called the Ten Best...

Re: Is electronic communication a young persons thing?
Unfortunately it's the way humanity is going. Less and less face to face chat. Less speaking over the phone. We do online shopping so never converse with shopkeepers. We are all becoming bits and bytes. Texting each other....overuse of the thumb and forefinger will probably result in Arthritis as ha...

I use Facebook to keep in touch with what is going on in my village and
nearby Market town. Any road closures due to flooding to avoid etc.
Up and coming events that might be of interest and much else.

Festivals time limits
Like many here I enter films for many festivals. I think that I am right in saying that all of them set a time limit as to when a film was made. Mostly a film has to be made recently, within the last 2 years, or less ! As far as I can see, and I may have missed it in the rules, there is only one fes...

Re: Burlesque
My first dozen films were on 16 mm. No editing cuts at all as editing
was done 'in camera' !
The only 16mm splicing I have ever done is joining one 100 ft film to the next 100ft.
My editing these days is done using NCH Video Pad.

Touting for films
I have just had an email from a film festival inviting me to enter.
They said that they noticed a film of mine on the festival circuit and
invited me to enter it in their own festival with a 50% discount !
Is this touting for films normal practice?
It's the first time this has happened to me.

Re: The weird world of Film Festivals
Regarding if one needs to be present when your film is shown..... If you write a published book or paint a picture and it's hung in a gallery, you will never meet the 'audience' for your work. The satisfaction is you have shown people you will never meet your work and hope that your work gave them s...

Abacus !!
Do you remember when in infants school the Abacus was used
as an aid to teaching Arithmetic ?
Here is my all dancing version of an Abacus.
The Brahms piano score was scanned from an old book of his music
using the App Playscore 2.
