Re: What is the difference between an AV and a film?

It's probably just as difficult defining what a "film" is Is an episode of "Dad's Army" a film? Most people would say not I suspect, but if made by one of us it would qualify as such for BIAFF entry wouldn't it? My brain is starting to hurt - maybe this is one of those situations...

IAC Journal

Just to say that I've received 3 copies of the August magazine. 2 in one envelope and one on its own.

Can't have too much of a good thing obviously, but if it applies to everyone then a bit costly!

Re: What is the difference between an AV and a film?

I think that's a fine line which an audiences might find it difficult to see! Certainly I think a film audience would expect to see high quality moving images.. I'm with Howard on this one. I found the following definition from the Melbourne Camera Club on the interweb: "AV is a planned sequenc...

Re: Judging-FVM June

"..don't give up" - Amen to that Ned! It's a tricky business - comments about judges invariably run the risk of being seen as sour grapes. I admit I was disappointed with the "scores" for the 2 animated films I submitted this year. The judges comments made me feel a bit better - ...

Re: BIAFF RESULTS 2023

Thanks Tim! Maybe shouldn't have posted so soon after getting the results! There are some things I'll take on board, and some thimgs that I wouldn't change regardless, and everyone is entitled to their opinion. As we all know, a lot of blood, sweat and tears go into making our films, and I guess I h...

Re: BIAFF RESULTS 2023

Well this year's results are a bit of a backwards step for me, which is disappointing obviously. Mustn't argue with the referees of course, but I did feel that for one film they didn't quite "get it" ( down to me as the maker I guess!) and the comments for the other felt a bit like being t...

Re: Entering competitions..

Gaining YouTube views is a bit of a dark art..The best I've done is around 900 views ( and all of 18 "likes") for a short animation - and that's mainly because it's to do with the James Bond theme. The film managed a meagre 2 stars in this year's BIAFF so you're probably right about the re...

Re: Entering competitions..

Well I've successfully negotiated the "Film Freeway" site and submitted a film for the BIAFF competition...but just in case this helps anyone there is more than one BIAFF festival on there, so when searching I put in the whole title ( British International Amateur Film Festival) and found ...

Re: Entering competitions..

Thank you all for your replies. I'll give both competitions a go! I have to say that one of the reasons I think the BIAFF competition stands out from all the rest is the written feedback. At least it shows the films have actually been watched all the way through! I'm not sure any of the other compet...

Entering competitions..

Hi all,

Both SERIAC and BIAFF are accepting entries at the moment.

I was wondering if you had any views on the upside/downside of entering the same film(s) into both competitions? ( apart from the possible double-whammy of failing to impress judges twice in quick succession!)

Thanks

Re: How best to run festivals in the electronic age?

From my perspective, as a first time entrant, things went pretty smoothly. I receive confirmation of receipt for each of my films ( did the person who heard nothing have that confirmation? ) Perhaps a clear timescale.." if you haven't received confirmation within x days please contact us.."...

Re: BIAFF Results 2022

Thanks Tim Yes - Google is my friend , and looking for film competitions I found BIAFF. The fact that every film got feedback was very appealing. Many many years ago I entered competitions run by Movie Maker and Film Making magazines. Those magazines went away, and life happened to me, so when I ret...

Re: BIAFF Results 2022

Hi, I’m new here and new to the competition (although no youngster!), but I thought I’d chip in – if for no other reason than to add at least one more voice to the forum contributions! I submitted 5 films, all animations, and got three 2 star, one 4 star and one 5 star, which I was obviously very pl...
