Re: Jameela

I just wanted to show an alternative brighter possible future, and how the IAC could become attractive to serious younger filmmakers. Jameela The younger film makers who have been invited to be BIAFF judges in recent years seem to have settled in well and enjoyed themselves, but they do lead busy l...

Re: FILM FESTIVAL AWARDS

As I've mentioned previously on the forum, I submit films to various festivals via Film Freeway. As we know, film judgements and appraisals can never be totally objective, nor is film judging an exact science. Well done Howard, I really admire your enthusiasm. Also I get the feeling your self belie...

Re: Manifesto for Change

* This compilation follows from previous discussions in other threads * 2. Purpose and Focus It is recognised that there are many levels of personal involvement in Amateur Film and Video making, and all are part of this community. However it is anticipated that for new and younger members, the prim...

Re: The Evolution of Home Entertainment

There is normally a need for passive forms of entertainment and active, involved creativity. Nearly anyone can do the passive form! Film making is more active and can be more rewarding. At different times there is a need for both active and passive forms.

Re: Jameela

Great picture, all three of you look so happy, and as you say the sunshine and the blossom really set the picture off. I have now read all this thread and my view is the modern environment of increasing video platforms on the internet it is amazing what BIAFF has been able to achieve. The fact that ...

Re: Jameela

This is like God breaking through into the made universe! We are discussing your posts and our/your reaction to it and suddenly you are there amongst us! Seriously great to have your input in the form of your link to the experimental film taster, I cannot claim to understand it but maybe we are not ...

Re: Jameela

A festival should be a festival not a competition, but could we not at least abolish the: 'One, Two and Three star awards', while offering these filmmakers the option to withdraw their work and improve it in line with the feedback given, then re-enter their film for the following festival, otherwis...

Re: Jameela

The term "personal film making" is used in some academic areas to describe our type of work. I just remembered! Many Germans refer to "passionate film makers" - Brits may be shy about using the term, but at least it speaks to Jameela's concern about descriptions which may be tak...

Re: Jameela

I've just read through a year's posts on this thread, what did happen to Jameela and where did she go? It's interesting that the IAC has arranged film viewing (and commenting) on line. I've just watched this evening's one. Only under sixty people attending, which is disappointing, and the film qual...

Re: Jameela

I hear what you are saying but reserve judgement. I know it would be radical but what about Film Clubs working out a way to put their screens in Portrait mode?

Re: Jameela

I have decided to try and get up to speed on the "Jameela" debate! Could someone tell on which thread it started on. Anyway here what has come to my mind on this point: I'm afraid I disagree with one of your comments above where you say "In a hobby like ours..." For me this is no...

Re: IN DEFENCE OF DISSOLVES

Two Points: If I see a really good match cut style disolve it makes me think wow that was clever the same with a focus pull, if it is from one well composed scene to another well composed scene it is impressive. To do these things takes a lot of time and effort. On the other hand a lot of footage is...

The Evolution of Home Entertainment

Stories and Music were perhaps the first home entertainment, then more organised theater and photography including cine, then TV & Video and now internet & smart phone. Each step has had a commercial element. One of the founder members of Weymouth Movie Makers was telling me that back in the...

Re: Contentious/contemporary subjects

Of course there are many "current affairs topics" represented on YouTube but most not in the half hour documentary format. When I first joined a Moviemaking club about 6 years ago I was surprised there was no internet connectivity, and then when I spoke of YouTube it was as-if I was talkin...

Re: Contentious/contemporary subjects

Why wouldn't you make holiday films? People like to have memories recorded. Just don't inflict them on other people. (I tend only to take phone footage, upload it to hard drives when I get home and then never touch it again) What I'm thinking about is: motivation. What is it that motivates people t...
