Re: IAC Website

The "Member only" area of the website may suggest that an online version of FVM is already available. But it is in an unrecogniseable language. Will this area be only for individual members or also those afiliated to an IAC subscribing club. Clubs and club members need all the encouragemen...

Re: IAC Website

One step closer to having FVM as an online mag? Which would sound good to me.

Film Clubs as "Hobby Clubs"

I think the distinction between film making and film making as a hobby has to be made here. For whatever reason - probably reasons, plural - all hobbies are in decline, which is a sad thing For me to want to go to any sort of club, pub or church or just a group of friends there needs to be a happy ...

Re: Is electronic communication a young persons thing?

Reply to Michael Stowe now that Clubs are almost extinct as are the IAC Regional festivals. I am almost at the stage of wondering whether it's all worthwhile. That is a big statement Michael! The funny thing is film makeing is more popular than ever! Many colleges offer filmstudies degree courses, a...

Is electronic communication a young persons thing?

Sometimes as people get older they communicate less. It can take a lifetime to work out what the world is about. But once all the conclusions have been reached then there is no need to ask any more questions. Company is still nice, we often quote Gabriel Oak from Far from the Madding Crowd "And...

Re: Burlesque

I have often thought it would be good to have an old fashioned film night at film clubs. We could have one night for 8mm, another night for 9.5, and a 16mm meeting. The smells, the sounds the flickering light, maybe even a film break and of course the rewinds. I have run some old family films recent...

Re: Burlesque

Fear of the new! I suppose when "electronic transitions" came in there was a lot of opposition, just as we now also hear a lot of criticism of too much drone footage today. I tend to put a bit of vignetting on my films, to try and give a bit of continuity to the clips. I've done it on Burl...

Midsummer Madness

I notice that on the What's on page 39 of FVM the event on the weekend 26th-28th- July was described by it's original title "Midsummer Madness" which to me suggests comedy. On page 23 the event is described as "The IAC Summer Film Making Challenge" evenso "fun" is menti...

Re: Burlesque

Thanks for watching the film Dave, our film has been described as gloriously bonkers! For our non-film friends who have watched the film from a link on Facebook they may have no idea what a 48 hour film challenge is. It is entertaining even if not completly understood. Yes there were seven other fil...

Burlesque

Burlesque is a film by the "Dorset Originals" for the IAC Summer Film Making Challenge. The theme it was made to was "Script Tease" and it was limited to 5 minutes long and 48 hours to make the film. The making of the film went well, but acting, directing and filming this type of ...

Re: The weird world of Film Festivals

Here is the old chestnut: The difference between an amateur and professional film is the funding. Re BIAFF, IAC members and clubs making films is one part of it, but all the organising, judging and showing is an equally important part of the activities of the IAC and shoud be fulfilling. People work...

Re: The weird world of Film Festivals

I was just agreeing with Albert about not feelig the need to be present every time my film is viewed. It is always nice when the award winners are there at the BIAFF festival. But I don't see BIAFF as the same as the indi festivals because it is celebrating amateur film making; whereas the indi fil...

Re: The weird world of Film Festivals

No I agree with Howard. YouTube hits is one thing; but if a filmaker has paid good money to enter a film into a serious indi film festival there needs to be accountability and a fair chance of awards. Do they take us for fools?

The IAC Summer Film Making Challenge

I see the The IAC Summer Film Making Challenge is going to be 26th - 28th July. I have marked it down on my calendar and hope to put a film in; having enjoyed making and putting films in the last two years. What a laugh! Great Fun!

Re: BIAFF 2024 - yes or no?

Ha Ha! LOL, did I say they were all depressing? Sounds a bit patronising towards what few clubs there are left to me!
