Re: The shorcomings of a film

To see a short clip is quite different to seeing the whole production with the context everything is in.

Some of what is communicated in a film are the words spoken, and some is visual.

Only the film's creator knows what was intended - for everyone else; some may get it and others not.

Re: DVD and Blu-ray discs

IAC members almost by definition are Enthusiasts, and as such are likely to have internet enabled computers connected to decent size screens with decent speakers. So for our community, sharing large files in high resolution is quite possible. However, for many people nowadays, they have their smartp...

Re: DVD and Blu-ray discs

I think amateur and micro budget independent film makers are limited by distribution rather than anything else. The quality of amateur work can be very high, but the gap is widening between those commercial productions that get on Netflix, and the rest. It is not about creativity or originality, but...

Re: The shorcomings of a film

I think in the first interview with the woman, the dark does draw you in to what she is speaking, though perhaps a little too dark - but this is adjustable in editing. The second interview with the guy doing his selfie is natural and authentic, but could you not use 'Shake Reduction' on your editing...

Re: DVD and Blu-ray discs

Artists have always made comment about the world as they see it. Whether it be anti-war comments, or any other kind of tyranny or deception imposed upon the population. I watched a DVD called "First Do No Harm", it was about better alternatives to the conventional treatment of Epilepsy. Ve...

Re: DVD and Blu-ray discs

I miss the extras that DVD and Blue-Ray have, all the behind the scenes and various aspects of how the film was made. I always study these very carefully and have leaned so much, but alas with streamed movies, it is no more. I think there is a push to further monopolise and control the whole media i...

Re: The shorcomings of a film

I think there is a distinction between what can be put right afterwards, and what can't... When someone gives an emotive or artistic performance of any kind, the best take is the best take regarding content, as any other take would be flatter. So we are stuck with what we've got. However, regarding ...

Re: The shorcomings of a film

I totally agree with John's statement... As amateur film makers we have a different thing to offer to the multi million pound film industry - originality! I too am now in a dilemma between content and technical quality, having spent much of the last two years making an experimental practise film on ...

Re: Jameela

Gosh! The film does have 'Coming Together and Peace Message', but superficial people may find it contentious. Here is freeze frame with my three characters walking together, made from three separate video recordings without moving the camera, the upper two video tracks being cropped. Normally this t...

Re: Jameela

I like your suggestion Dave! "A picture speaks a thousand words" Below is a link to a two minute video clip rendered from my current project timeline. The complete video is expected to be about an hour in length and has the current title "THREE LONERS AND A SPIRIT" In this story ...

Re: How do you learn to make better films?

When a film is "boring", I think it is its story that fails to engage! I have watched action films with lots of explosions and dramatic special effects, but if the film did not have an engaging story, then it was boring. So for us, do we consider ourselves camera operators looking for a su...

Re: How do you learn to make better films?

Depends what your aim is... A well told story? ...or a technically good film?

Easy to be at cross purposes here, with negative reaction!

Re: Voice Over Actors?

Thanks, something like that needs to be put together before we repeat the voice recording session. If it is put on a laptop, then it could be taken outside where I want to re-record his voice. I have gone back to using a desktop computer with duel screens for my editing, but it is in a poor room for...

Re: Voice Over Actors?

At the moment we are very limited as to who we can get to help us. Yesterday I recorded a close family member reading the Voice Over parts to my script. His voice was clear, full of strength and the recording was technically good, but it just wasn't the right mood for the character or the scene, reg...

Voice Over Actors?

Does anyone have any tips on how to get Voice Over Actors for a manikin to be in role properly? It seems like a chicken and egg scenario, as both voice and manikin create the character together. So what or how can we direct our speaker to help create the character? I know professional filmmaking stu...
