Re: Voice Over Actors?
Thanks, something like that needs to be put together before we repeat the voice recording session. If it is put on a laptop, then it could be taken outside where I want to re-record his voice. I have gone back to using a desktop computer with duel screens for my editing, but it is in a poor room for...

Re: Voice Over Actors?
At the moment we are very limited as to who we can get to help us. Yesterday I recorded a close family member reading the Voice Over parts to my script. His voice was clear, full of strength and the recording was technically good, but it just wasn't the right mood for the character or the scene, reg...

Voice Over Actors?
Does anyone have any tips on how to get Voice Over Actors for a manikin to be in role properly? It seems like a chicken and egg scenario, as both voice and manikin create the character together. So what or how can we direct our speaker to help create the character? I know professional filmmaking stu...

Re: Peculiar Camera Mounts
UPDATE You must use the URL of the image itself, NOT of the page in the address bar, which in this case is 'One Drive'... Do this by right clicking or long tap on the image in its original location, then choose 'Copy image location'. This is then pasted into your forum post, and 'Insert Image' clic...

Re: Peculiar Camera Mounts
Dear Richard, I think your URL won't work directly as an image in the page because it is 'embedded' into 'One Drive'. To work as an image file, it needs to end with an image file extension like: .jpg .png .gif It is a tremendous pity that uploading images to this forum wasn't easy for all of us! But...

Re: Peculiar Camera Mounts
There was another 'peculiar' shot I did with this Lumix compact camera and the fan, but I don't have a photo of it. It was in the local woods near here, and I set the fan horizontal with a bit of plywood over the three blades, with the camera sat on top resting on its back looking upwards towards th...

Peculiar Camera Mounts
https://www.northspirit.org/camcorder-on-ladder.jpg For this scene, I needed a camera mounted high up on a wall opposite the stairs to a couple of attic rooms, to create the illusion of a coffee house with a balcony. Using a piece of flat mild-steel strip bent into an 'L' shape, with a hole drilled...

Re: Manifesto for Change
I have just watched the 'Rocky Balboa' DVD again, for the umpteenth time now. The Rocky films have a very strong message... "It's not how hard you can hit, but how hard you can get hit and still keep moving forward - that is how winning is done." I have never been to a boxing match in my l...

Re: Manifesto for Change
Ah but... In an abstract sense, yes filmmaking skills are independent of the purpose or the intention of film, but our purpose or intention becomes inherent in our approach to the technical issues... If one person considers this an engaging spare time hobby, and another person using similar equipmen...

AGM and Survival
With the current situation over this virus and the imposed draconian restrictions, plus the mess the IAC has got itself into by not bringing younger people forward, the Institute now faces existential threats. The 'Annual General Meeting' is a few days away, and it is intended to be held via 'Zoom M...

Re: Anyone out there?
Tim, that is a delightful little film, so lovely. Yes if you look for it, there are stabiliser and sound quality issues, but we can beat ourselves up too much about technical issues! ...What made the little film so great was its magic (in more ways than one) and the imagination of being 4 years old....

Re: Anyone out there?
To clarify what I was saying about using 'Time-Stretch' to facilitate correction in the dialogue no-speaking pauses... When one track is recorded, after speaking one's line, a gap or pause needs to be left before speaking the next line (following the script). Now obviously the whole script is known,...

Moving a bit further along the time-line to the table part https://www.northspirit.org/scn14-garden-top-track.jpg This is the upper track on its own, the frame has been cropped (this character is on a listening pause here) ...'cropped' means transparent to see the track below. https://www.northspir...

Re: Anyone out there?
Re: two images of myself in the same frame... This is done by using a camera mounted on a sturdy tripod that does not move at all. Also the camera must be one that holds its settings when it is switched off, so that when it is switched back on everything remains exactly the same: Zoom, focus, apertu...
