Re: Adobe Encore

I have Express Burn Plus by NCH Software. I haven't used it for years though; everything I do is online or USB drive now, but I can't recall any problems with it. I bought the paid version (about £50 iirc) because the free version wasn't up to the job - maybe it put a watermark on the output or didn...

Vimeo degraded for UK and EU subscribers

Last November Vimeo changed the search function for UK and EU users. From now on people can only discover your films if you have given them a link, and you can't find anyone else's films unless you have a link. As far as I can see this makes Vimeo pretty much worthless, and I expect it will wipe out...

Excellent. I can fit everything else around those dates. I'll be there +1.

Re: BIAFF 2024 - yes or no?

I much prefer live events, and I was very sorry to miss BIAFF this year. It's hard to get to know people properly over Zoom. By the time the dates were announced my diary had already filled up. I hope the same doesn't happen next year, but unless BIAFF is the last weekend in April I shall miss it ag...

Re: How best to run festivals in the electronic age?

The BIAFF entries/results system works well for me. All electronic, card payments accepted, email communications - as good as any other entry system I've used, and far better than some. I think communication with entrants, including updates on delays in judging etc, is best done by email (as now), n...

Re: BIAFF Results 2022

In response to Dave Watterson’s request for views on judges’ comments.... By mid-December last year I hadn’t completed any new films with a BIAFF audience in mind. The IAC seemed keen to encourage entries, and had a free entry offer for members expiring in a few days. So I decided to enter two fami...

Re: How short is too short?

An interesting question. What do we mean by "a film"? Perhaps the distinction is between "spectacle" - a loop on TikTok of someone pulling a silly face, a clip of an armoured vehicle crushing a passing car in Ukraine - and "story" - an edited sequence of images delibera...

Re: BIAFF 2022

Well here's another view. https://vimeo.com/455043781 . I generally just lurk on forums, but since I uploaded this film to Vimeo about half an hour ago I thought I'd post it. The first six minutes got four stars at BIAFF 2021, and the new version has one update reflecting the situation in September ...

Re: BIAFF 2021 RESULTS

I will keep the identity of the commenter on the absent music a secret. After all it is correct to say that the music does not overpower the voiceover. Perhaps they decided I had used 4′33″ (1952) by John Cage (1912–1992) silent; in three movements lasting a total of four minutes and 33 seconds, for...

Re: BIAFF 2021 RESULTS

Results arrived today. three 4 stars and a 2 star. Happy enough with that, especially as Lucky Nelson , one of the 4*, was my first attempt at animation (very time consuming!). My Old Bedroom Window was selected for Kendal Mountain Festival 2020, achieving a long held ambition for me. A Pond and a R...

Re: BIAFF Web Page

It works OK for me, with no warnings. OK via the home link at the top of this forum webpage, and via a Google enquiry. My ISP is Virgin Media, and I use Chrome browser.

Thanks Jameela

BTW this is the film I made with footage from the improv tripod (plus some handheld and some on a little gorillapod).

Re: Peculiar Camera Mounts

Here's an improvised tripod I made on a recent wild camping trip...... https://1drv.ms/u/s!AoAozYX-65zkgoR7ye3ZqThRImaYXw?e=sAtbot Clicking the above hyperlink will reveal the picture, but the 'insert picture' feature below (small mountain icon described in Jameela's post) doesn't seem to work. http...

Re: COVID-19

Cheadle & Gatley Film Makers, and Altrincham Movie Makers have both suspended meetings until further notice. Swan Movie Makers have suspended meetings until September. Burnley Film Festival, which includes an inter-club competition, was to have been held today (Sunday) but has been postponed.
