Re: Attracting New Members

Hello folks, just dropping by... So, very quickly, the International Association of Cinematographers (IAC) could be hosting its prestigious film fest at the British International Annual Film Festival (BIAFF) Now this I like very much. If 'The IAC' really is to up its game and move forward, the above...

Yeah was definitely great fun. Especially being able to combine two hobbies.

An Avatar Fan Meet Up Promo Video from 2012

Hope folks don't mind me sharing this as it is an interesting exercise to try out yourself, although this one did have a purpose. Here's the background. In 2011 there were two meet ups held in Seattle organised by Avatar fans. Why Seattle? Well that is where an exhibition on the film was opened and ...

Re: Attracting New Members

Welllll....I must admit I was trying to be semi-provocative in my post. I guess what I was, perhaps naively, hoping to see was a load of ideas banded about on how to grow...transform...make accessible...make enticing...'make it the corner stone of British hobbyist film making for all types of film m...

Re: Attracting New Members

Well these 6 pages created a lot of hot air! Hehehe... Although there seems to have been a few idea thrown about there seems to be no positive way forward to evolve and transform 'The IAC' into an organisation that any film maker would want to be a part of. I guess things will just carry on as they ...

Re: An idea for folks to try out

Well I know that one page of a script equals one minute of film. So we did just a page and a half of script I guess. If a day's work is eight hours, then it seems like we were bob-on with 11 hours to produce that sequence. You are right though, if you are shooting more and there are efficiencies to ...

Re: An idea for folks to try out

Thanks for you kind comments. Ok, well.... Planning ...about 2 hours: watching the film, photographing each shot and putting them into a shot list with description etc. Filming ...about 3 hours: setting up, doing the envelope shots before the actor arrived, setting up each shot and practicing the ca...

Re: An audience with Jon Landau - Film Producer

Yeah, it was an amazing experience. Jon is a very approachable person. He had time for everyone - even me pointing the camera at him! You can tell he's the kinda guy who smooths all the bump along they way between the film makers and studios. That's what a producer does! :)

Re: Attracting New Members

1. Put the magazine on line and put the money saved into awards at BIFF (get rid of the A) with most going to a student section judged by younger professional film makers. If you want a young future this is where it is. Promote BIFF on Withoutabox. 2. Hold Regional film shows and open screenings. 3...

An audience with Jon Landau - Film Producer

Not sure where to put this as there are limited topic areas, but hope this is the best place. The video below is one that I took during a meet up of Avatar fans (of which I am one!) over in Seattle. Just to give a bit of background to it: This was a four day meet up of Avatar fans from around the wo...

Re: Attracting New Members

There is no shortage of filmmakers, and no shortage of filmmaker organisations either, but unfortunately, the IAC has no connection with either group now. have a look at http://www.youtube.com/user/filmriot Quarter of a million free subscribers, and over 50 million views in total, and only been aro...

An idea for folks to try out

Wasn't sure where to put this, but it seemed as good a place as any... We had a new starter at work late last year and it turned out he was a film maker (never heard of the IAC - although I have got him putting a film in this years BIAFF!). Anyway between Christmas and New Year I went round his hous...

Re: Attracting New Members

I wonder how many 'cinematographers' regard themselves as indulging in 'audio/visual' or 'visual/audio' arts: the two words have long been associated with presentations (or 'sequences' as they call them) of 'slide shows to music'. So whilst, technically, making a movie is an audio/visual art form, ...

Re: Attracting New Members

Apologies for not keeping up. I've just had a quick whizz through. I don't quite like the idea of making it for 'clubs' like 'Federation/Aliance of Movie Making Clubs' as it completely cuts down the potential membership opportunity to bring all 'hobbyist' film makers together, like the indie populat...

Re: Attracting New Members

Apologies for coming into the chat a bit late. Afraid it's a bit of a long post, so grab a cup of tea...or a brick to throw at the screen! Hehehe. I'll start with a little bit of a story: We had a new starter at work a few months back who came a sat next to me. It turned out he was an avid film make...
