Re: Archiving
Hi Colin and others, Thanks for your response. I assume from your replies that solid state is not a good option for long term storage. I will continue to use HD and DVD for each film, long term renewing as necessary and DVD for easy access, the former for long term and the latter for easy access. Ar...

Re: Cleaning up an audio sound track using audition 1.5
Hi John, I had a problem with a high pitched whistle on my sound track. I used Adobe Audition 1.5 to remove it. As I could not hear the sound but anyone under 40 could, I used the Analyser to identify the frequency of the sound and then the Effects to filter it out. This worked well but I suspect yo...

Re: H2 ZOOM DIGITAL RECORDER
I have a H2 recorder and find it very good but when I used my Stennheiser 400 as an external mic.I got a whistle above my audible range but younger audience found it ruined the track. the cause I have not yet traced but fear it's the external mic. The built in mic. is very good and if this can be us...

Re: H2 ZOOM DIGITAL RECORDER
I have also had a problem using my H2 recorder with my Stennheiser 400 as an external mic. It was on max. gain and appeared to give perfect results to my ears with or without hearing aids but when my Daughter came to visit she noticed a high pitched whistle. As I could not hear it, it was very diffi...

Re: H2 ZOOM DIGITAL RECORDER
Hi fraught, I recently purchased a H2 recorder and found it very good. The screen is small and a lot of information is displayed on it. I find it rather a fiddle to select the folder and file when I want to play a sertain recording back to the compuer. The file and folders are what I usually want to...

Re: H2 ZOOM DIGITAL RECORDER
Hi all, I was about to ask about sound recorders when the H2 Zoom discussion started. I am looking for a sound recorder mainly for speech with facilities for external microphone, recording on to a solid state device which would make transfer to computer quicker and easier. Mobility would be useful b...

Re: How might BIAFF entries be judged?
May I enter the ring? I can only thank the judges for their time and patience in grading our efforts. It must be a gruelling task and I don’t expect they go home laden with riches. It must be a bit depressing to face so much dissatisfaction. Thank goodness I will never be a judge; anyway they would ...

Re: Setting up an editing studio.
Hi Gerald, Welcome to the most useful forum ever. Two points worth consideration. Put plenty of mains surge protected sockets above your desk, I never seem to have enough. You will need a telephone socket too for e-mails and downloads. Being an animator I have a camera connected to the computer by f...

Re: Test Screening
I can't agree more about the value of test screening particularly in 3D animation. The script is usually your idea and the film is in your imagination. Showing it to a non-movie maker can reveal something you took for granted but is missed completly by them and this may be an important element to th...

Re: Mini DV tape - the era's end?
I wonder, when those young couples whose wedding Tom often records, reach their golden wedding anniversary and wish to look back at their wedding video what will be the medium they will be using. I doubt if it will be the original DVD. I wonder what the future holds. Will it be solid state or is any...

Re: NEW LOOK IAC WEBSITE
The new website is agreat improvement, congratulations to you both. Behind every good man there is a good woman perhaps some better than others but it's not for me to say. Two little suggestions. I love to watch amateur films and unfortunately I am no longer able to travel. I know that you will make...

Re: Which films just missed BIAFF?
I just finished my film in time but with the postal problems due to the proximity of Christmas and the the New Year and the snow I was doubtful if it would make it but it did. That little message from the organisers to confirm safe arrival is greatly appreciated. Have you noticed that when you start...

Re: Ideas on how to destroy old film?
Hi Jan, Old cine film probably has a silver salt and gelatine based emolsion and acetete compound base. It burns slowly and produces a black sticky substance in my experience. This may solidify when cold and I would have thought made disposal easier. Above all, do it outside in a incinerator with a ...
