Re: Judges critiques - a criticism!

....and the more experience/training, the better those subjective assessments will be given. Everything depends greatly on your point of view (as Ben Kenobi once told Luke). But how it is said makes a big difference (as when Luke found out about his father being betrayed and murdered - little film r...

Re: Judges critiques - a criticism!

When I trained to be a trainer, giving balanced feedback to people was an essential quality to learn. For me how things are said are paramount, especially if it is telling someone how to improve. It is the same for feedback on films, websites, anything. That is the thing I have found most lacking in...

Re: Creation of club websites

I would like to see an article with more positives in it - show us some good web sites, and explain why they are good. But I thought Peter's article was a good start. It certainly has got the debate started. The Chesterfield pages are good in that they show a group of happy people, and it looks an i...

Web Accessibility for your websites please

Up until about a year ago I hadn't heard of the term 'Web Accessibility'. Basically this revolves around making websites easy and accessible for all people, especially those with reading difficulties or impairments. It covers things such as big enough writing for people to read. Does your site preve...

Re: MR ANGRY and the CLUB WEBSITES

Personally I like an intro video but prefer the option of making it play rather than auto-play. But this is the great thing about web sites - there really is so much creative freedom. You can't satify everyone, so just make yourself (or club) happy with the result. I've made a few websites and I hav...

Re: Who's watching your online movies?

Well we all have our own personal experiences of YouTube (and similar) channels. For me it has been great, and I recommend it. Lots of people get to see my work (well over a million views in three years). Computers these days can view it very well with great sound, and actually much better than some...

Re: What would make you enter an annual film competition?

Thanks Michael

It would be excellent to have some of your work on show again, so if you can make it one day that would be great.

Re: What would make you enter an annual film competition?

Thanks David. That is a good point. As soon as I enter a few films the cost is quite a bit. Four films say, plus postage. Then getting to the venue, buying tickets too, it all adds up.

What would make you enter an annual film competition?

In particular what would make you enter the North Thames annual competition? We want your views because we need some ideas to help stop the numbers dropping away. So put on your thinking caps please everyone and see if you can come up with anything. I'm finding it hard work to find something that do...

Re: Percentage of archive footage allowed in my movie?

Thanks for all the advice. I plan to make two versions now, one for me, and one for festivals. I doubt I can get permission to use the % of archive material, so that version will be for me. It does add to it though because it is shots of sailors running about etc. So for the IAC version I'll have to...

Percentage of archive footage allowed in my movie?

What percentage of shots in my movie can be archive shots and what percentage must be mine (in order to be submitted into IAC festivals)? I seem to remember there is a 5% rule or something about using other people's material? This discussion has been moved into the "Competitions, Festivals and ...

Visual FX company = bad service

I'm posting this up as a warning to other film makers that may need to have their camera repaired. I went to a company in Brentwood called Visual FX. I had bad service from them many years ago but felt sure they must have changed by now. They have not. They were painfully slow. My 7-10 day repair to...

As you say, it seems some companies are ok with the free advertising and some not. Viacom and YouTube/Google are at it again sueing over lost revenue http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7420955.stm or getting some free advertising, I'm not sure which :-) Personally I find it a great resource for f...
