Re: Web site competition

Dave and I are pleased that the Website Competition has generated a reaction and we have responded - specifically on this website. Apart from announcing the winner, we have also published our criteria and listed those clubs who came close. We hope this helps to make it clear that we assessed each si...

Club Publicity - ideas wanted

Some of you may have seen the articles that Dave Watterson and I have been writing about making better Club Websites (design and content etc). The articles are both on this website (the long versions are linked from the front page) and in FVM. I hope anyone who has read them found them useful and of...

Re: Video camera and skype

Arthur, to answer Stephen's point first, you can put your video camera where you like eg on a tripod, and thus you can point it where you like, rather than trying to clip a webcam onto something. Secondly you get a real optical zoom which offers much better results than the digital zoom on a webcam....

Aspect ratios and projection

Whilst all recent TVs have an autosetting (which is usually the default) which tries to work out the aspect ratio correct setting or uses a flag from the DVD player - I was under the impression that projectors can be set to whatever setting you choose and they will stay there. If this is not true an...

Re: 2010 INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION RESULTS

At BIAFF I also watched far too many films shown in the wrong aspect ratio - usually because the DVD had been letterboxed and then stretched again by the 16-9 setting on the projector ( incidentally I am sure the IAC logo was also shown wrong more often than right). The other element in this unaccep...

Re: The Panasonic HMC151

Tom, Ian Morris and I did the rounds of the the show on Wednesday afternoon, we looked at the Panasonic HMC151, the Sony Z5 and the two new JVC camcorders - the GY-HM100 and the GY-HM700. Did you look at the last two - I was quite excited about those JVC models and had a long chat with the German he...

Re: Anybody editing in HDV?

I don't know why everyone is getting hung upon Blu-ray discs as the only way to save and output HD- if you have a laptop which will display HD through an HDMI or DVI output and play HD video files eg Quicktime HD or Window WMV HD - then this is a good alternative

Well well...That Denon does what it says on the can and you probably paid £100 less than we did back in November - see the credit crunch does help some people!

Re: What is HD ?

There is in place an Industry agreement that the phrase/logo HD ready - you have seen the stickers - which is effectively defined as covering the 720p and 1080i formats. However I think this only covers display kit ie TV's. Any description applied to camcorders is at the mercy of the marketeer and is...

Re: PROJECTORS

Hi billy The problem you describe is precisely the problem we had and as the the poor sap who was stuck with unplugging and replugging all these various sources - slowing the whole process down and occasionally getting in a tangle I was the one who had to come up with a solution. The answer in a nut...

Re: PROJECTORS

Hi HD fans- The site mentioned at 'There's a comparative review (though it compares in the IN82 to the Panasonic) about a few of them here: http://www.projectorreviews.com/panason ... titors.php' is one of the best I have seen and the new Panasonic mentioned therein looks as if it may be worth waiti...

Re: PROJECTORS

Mike, Tom, everyone, the Finchley Projector (which I chose based on the recommendation of several magazines) is an Infocus IN82 - it upscales to 1080p HD. The details are at http://www.infocus.com/Products/Projectors/IN82.aspx It does have a rather unusual appearence - like a flattened Darth Vader h...
