Re: Bournemouth University Graduate Film

I also watched it twice and agree with most of what Ned writes. I thought that the very competent animation rather showed up the rather less competent live action. The acting I thought a bit childish (maybe intentionally so?), and some of the landscape shots unnecessary and held rather too long, but...

I hesitate to demonstrate that I am a boring old man, but what is VR?

Re: Forum chat in FVM

Tim, don't desert this Forum, we need every contribution, we all have a common interest in the art of film making and it's good to talk (and listen).

Re: Forum chat in FVM

Why do people get offended by criticism? Art is always a subjective matter and opinions differ widely on most works of art. It is always good to get comments or opinions on our films because you know that at least someone viewed the film!

Re: Forum chat in FVM

It was fine but I noticed that most of the attendees did not join in any chat, I thought that this is the idea of these evenings. There were written comments in the 'chat' box but not many. All the familiar faces were very quiet!

Re: Forum chat in FVM

Absolutely Dave, but the same must apply for almost every artistic endeavour. How much help did Rembrandt get? Mind you, he was fairly talented in the first place! The problem is, as I wrote, there are so few outlets for films these days, not only for amateurs, the commercial cinema is really suffer...

Re: Forum chat in FVM

John, I didn't mean to criticise your attitude, I was merely bemoaning the fact that people did not seem very happy. I don't want to 'misrepresent' or 'misunderstand' you, we are all in the same world. I agree, the best antidote to discontent for us chaps, is to make films. I'm always happiest when ...

Re: Forum chat in FVM

Ah yes Albert but AI won't lead you to an interesting documentary subject, nor will it shoot it for you.
The art world is becoming alarmed by the possible use of AI and who can trust videos and photographs now, bad times ahead, I'm glad to be 'very old'!

Re: Forum chat in FVM

Oh dear, all this depressing chat from you guys, cheer up for heavens sake. Messrs Simpson and Evans need cheering up, maybe Dave, you and I should get them a few drinks at BIAFF in April? Mr Editor, I will write a piece for you not even mentioning the old STANDARD 8mm days, and certainly not how I ...

Re: Is electronic communication a young persons thing?

Reading this thread can be rather depressing in that it is obvious that community and communal shared experience is becoming less a part of our lives. Within our own sphere of non commercial film making the demise of local film clubs is having an enormous effect on middle aged and elderly people and...

Re: IAC Website

Martin, the magazine that you refer to, Moviemaker, was the successor to Movie Maker which in the 60s and 70s was published by Fountain Press and edited by Tony Rose and Alan Cleave. It was the mainstay of non commercial film making and promoted and ran the wonderful competition called the Ten Best....
