Hi. Can anybody explain to me why, when Windows installs important updates on my Windows 7 professional the PC won't start and the only way I can get it to start is to restore it to an earlier date. This has happened twice and I don't know whether the updates have been installed or not. Thanks

I occasionally come across this if there are a lot of updates waiting to be applied - in particular if I build a PC from the last Windows 7 "disc" which include Service Pack 1 - there are literally hundreds of updates to download and apply. If it happens I roll back then split the updates so i only apply say half of them, reboot, create a restore point, do the next lot and so on.
You can see what updates have been applied by going to Windows Update and clicking on Update History.
