Liability insurance

Here in the USA there is a lawyer behind every corner looking to sue someone so liability is a problem. We are asked by some locations to provide a copy of our certificate of insurance (recently the car park in "Stan the Man"). Costs are rising steeply - what do clubs and individuals do in the UK? Is this even a problem?
