UNICA Medal for Christiane

Belgium awards a UNICA Gold Medal to Christiane Surdiacourt
Those who attend BIAFF Gala Dinners or read Film & Video Maker know that each year nations who are part of UNICA have a medal to present to people who have made outstanding contributions to the hobby. We have just heard that Christiane was awarded the medal for Belgium this year.
She and her husband, Martin, have been regular attenders at BIAFF for many years, often collecting awards on behalf of Belgian film makers and once making the toast to the IAC at a BIAFF Dinner. She was the driving force behind the De Drake festival for amateur fiction films. The couple support film events in all the Benelux countries, the Festival of Nations in Austria and, naturally, UNICA. Behind the scenes she has encouraged and promoted the work of Belgian film makers. She has often been instrumental in translating their work for festivals in other lands.
