In early June the Seoul World Short Film & Video Festival took place. South Koreans have become much more involved with the European amateur film movement and for some years we have had visitors from Korea attending BIAFF.

Although 460 entries were received, not so many Europeans are taking part in the Korean festival, so hats off to our own Ian Woodward, whose film Silly Robin won a Bronze medal and a Best Cinematography medal there this year. His film Too Many Ghosts was also selected for screening. We have just added three of Ian's films to the main website and you can see Silly Robin at http://www.theiac.org.uk/movies/biaff20 ... robin.html and Too Many Ghosts at http://www.theiac.org.uk/movies/biaff20 ... hosts.html and Bohemia's Woods and Fields is at http://www.theiac.org.uk/movies/biaff20 ... ields.html

Other IAC friends and forum contributors involved were an “Encouragement” award to Willy Van der Linden for The Apple of My Eye Willy also entered In England’s Green and Pleasant Land and The Road to Paradise. Geoff Harmer sent 8-Ball and Bob Lorrimer sent The Trap. Mark Rigler sent The Tale of Cyril.

If you want to discover South Korea and its culture, a very enjoyable and reasonably priced way is to go to UNICA 2013 which is hosted in Je Jeu island. Details will start to appear on the IAC website in September.

I cannot believe "Too Many Ghosts" was only awarded Two Stars. Ian's film is well worthy of more than that - even though it uses a healthy amount of stock footage.

I'd love to read the judge's crits on that one to see just why they rated it so low.

I'm with you on that Mike. The film has done well at other festivals.

In December, January and February it was shown 13 times at the Imperial War Museum in London. It was screened at the Auschwitz ("To Love A Man") festival, it got the UNICA Award for humanitarian themes from the Senior Forum, a special prize at the Tallinn festival. It took third place in the Imperial War Museum's festival. It was screened at Steps-2012 and the ArsFilm festival.

And these are just the ones I know about!

OK every group of judges differs ...
