Dear all,
I have just received my letter confirming my two films that I sent into
this years BIAFF. Very exciting but,
I cannot find on the IAC`s website, a list of the awards etc. For all I
know, the awards mentioned in my letter could be a polite way of saying
that
my films came last and were crap!!!!
I doubt that that is the case but they don`t say first, secord or third!
I may be thick but i have looked everywhere.

Ian is right - the explanation of the standards is not clearly stated anywhere
obvious. But in an article about last year's judging you can find:

Grade meaning very roughly ...

BLUE Shows promise but requires greater discipline.
BRONZE A fairly good film with a few weaknesses.
BRONZE+ Darned nearly a silver !
SILVER A well-made movie that really holds your attention.
SILVER+ Almost perfect but with perhaps a couple of flaws.
GOLD Real enjoyment, very high standard, close to perfection.

There will not be a list of this year's winners until everyone has had their
results from the Competition Officer. Even then the winner of the top prize,
The Daily Mail Trophy, is not announced until the end of the festival.

That has certainly helped me out too... I didn't realise that there was
such
things as Bronze+ and Silver+ ... when were these introduced?

They were introduced in 2005.

The thinking is that a lot of the basic work which used to be so difficult
- especially for newcomers - like getting exposure and focus correct - is
now done by Camcorders themselves ... and maybe we are all getting a but
better as operators ... whatever the reason there are more films in the
"pretty
good though not quite great" group covered by Bronze and Silver Standard
awards. So using the "Plus" system gave extra gradations to help sort them
out.

Could these awards be put on the IAC`s website somewhere then all the people
who don`t use this Forum know what is what.
