The Last of my Gold Dust

Today I will be on location filming using the last of my Kodachrome 40 SOUND
film. It's already a few 7 years out of date but I guess I can't hold on
to it for anything else. So the last 50ft cartridge will be used in 3 spectacular
locations filming scenes relating to the Highland Clearances. I suppose it's
kind of appropriate to use the last sound film on this subject as to bring
it into context for those who don't know, the Highland Clearances ended in
1895- the year modern cinema was born. Have a look here: www.theclearances.org
and have your eyes opened in Cinemascope

Dull misty weather met the first day of filming and it went well. We filmed
this evening at Broubster village which is an ancient site of human habitation.
The oldest of the houses will be around 500 years but people have lived in
the area for thousands of years. Broubster is a Norse (the Vikings came here
in 800AD) name and the village is located about 10 miles south west of Thurso.
Tomorrow we head for Achnachelt (bet you can't pronounce that) on the Causewaymire
(A9) near Loch Rangag (with Greysteal's castle)with ruined crofts of around
350 years old. Another stunning location.
