There has been a lengthy discussion about the role of Festivals and particularly the competitive element that is often a part. As film makers what we seek is an audience viewing with a reaction and the opportunity for discussion. Ideally about the content rather than the technology. There exists on this Forum an underutilized segment where I will post a link to one of my films and hopefully create a reaction and the posting of other films for discussion.

Re: Sharing the movie experience
I, too, have been very disappointed by the lack of use of that section, Ned. I think part of the problem may be that some members might be concerned about having their work critcised in public and for that reason every post has to be approved before publication. Whilst well-intentioned, that causes two problems (1) it introduces a delay in feedback, (2) it opens the moderators to accusations of censorship.
I've been a member of a forum for many years in which we critique each others' films (although it's become even lower volume recently). There is no such approval requirement for critiques and it has only very rarely been abused, in which case moderators have removed abusives and the poster warned. Persistent offenders are blocked. In practice the moderators (and I am one) have only ever banned one person for abusive posts whereas we've banned thousands who have attempted to post spam.

In the "User Videos" section.
It's very low volume nowadays, and we'd welcome someone with your experience, Ned - or indeed anything else here.
