UK film makers have great success at UNICA 2011

Post by Dave Watterson »

UNICA - the world festival of non-commercial films where nations compete - took place in Luxembourg last week.

The main UK programme consisted of:

THE TRAP by Bob Lorrimer which was awarded a Silver Medal
THE EXCHANGE by The Partners which was awarded a Diploma
DANCER by James Webber which was awarded a Bronze Medal
CHOCOLATE MOON by Mike Donaghy & Alex Moran which was awarded a Bronze Medal in the jeunesse category

In the World Minute Movie Cup - which works on a knockout basis with audience voting both UK entries were by Keith Baker. Annoyingly the luck of the draw had them set against each other in the first round. LOST FOR WORDS lost by s small margin. But BENEFIT went on all the way to the final and won the top prize.

Congratulations to all of the film makers, you made the 23 UK delegates very proud and delighted the 230+ audience.

The next UNICA festival will be 25th August to 1st September in Ruse, Bulgaria. A full report on the 2011 UNICA and notes on the 2012 event will be on the mainIAC website in the next few days.

Hurrah! Thanks, Jim. I have wanted to make it available for a long time. The film really does repay watching several times. On each viewing the subtlety of editing, performance and script become more obvious. I speak as one who went through it many, many times while subtitling it for UNICA.

This means we can now watch online DANCER, THE TRAP and CHOCOLATE MOON. Come on, Partners, what about making THE EXCHANGE available too. And surely Keith Baker would be happy to put his one-minute works up on the web.

Good as Vimeo is ... if you want the full impact of DANCER or any of the others, get them from the IAC Video Library and project them on a big screen.
