DV mini tapes

Post by Alwyn Anne »

Hello, does anyone know how to capture the footage from a mini DV onto a computer/editing programme without a firewire connection. I have just got a new computer and have several USB leads but no firewire, I believe they have gone out of fashion! Although I am now using a HD camera/memory card I don't really need the tapes anymore but it would be helpful if I could still access them for any reason?

Is it a PC you have?

If so you can add a PCI firewire card

The are very easy to fit, switch off the power, open the case and at the bottom left of the electronic circuit board you will find a series of slots with inbuilt connectors that marry up to the pci card. Remove the blank from the back, slot in the car and secure it, power up and Windows will find the card.
