Re: BIAFF 2018 AT HARROGATE
...the usual mixture of films which were by turn brilliant, perplexing, inventive, irritating, exciting, incomprehensible... and so on. That's part of the excitement of BIAFF - one never knows what is coming next because the nature of our work is that we can often make the films we want to make, no...

Re: Blu-ray discs
Hi Roy, Personally I have no experience with BD-RE discs, I've always steered clear of rewritable discs after long-term use failures of rewritable CDs and DVDs in the past. However, the BD-R brand I use is TDK and, touch wood, never had an issue with them. Maybe try them? Everyone will have their fa...

Re: BIAFF 2018 RESULTS
I too received my results yesterday, but didn't manage to get online. Maybe Howard is just quicker at typing than everyone else :D I also echo the comment regarding the amount of work David Newman puts into the competition, made even more complex and time consuming by the inclusion of laurels this y...

Re: Data protection Act
Hot topic at the moment! I do believe so, virtually everything apart from domestic lists of names and addresses of family, friends etc falls under the act. There are some changes in the pipeline that come into force from 25 May 2018 and Council are currently looking into those as well as the existin...

Re: BIAFF 2018
The whole idea of BIAFF judging is to watch all the films (potentially 200+) with rotating groups of judges, discuss the merits of them and arrive at at least a majority if not a unanimous decision as to the awards given, on 'identical' (though less than ideal) equipment under 'controlled' (though l...

Re: BIAFF 2018
John, you raise good points about BIAFF judges all working on the same playing field, and that this playing field could be improved by the acquisition of a set of decent sized TVs complete with sound bars. All the TVs will accept usb sticks so that films submitted online would have to be downloaded...

Re: BIAFF 2018
The problem with any grapevine Dave is that it often ends up being 'Chinese Whispers.' In the few years I have been on Council I can only recall the matter being brought up once, and IIRC that was from someone outside of the committee. I can say though that the issue of expenses was rejected by the ...

Re: IMGburn unexpected result
Hi Roy, I'm not entirely sure what it is you are doing here? As far as I am aware the image files of BD discs and DVDs are completely different, which might explain why a standard DVD player will not recognise the disc. I suspect you might have burnt your DVD to BD5 'standard', which is supposed to ...

Re: Show reel formats
I know of no way to force the creation of a traditional menu similar to that of a DVD menu system, maybe others who have more experience with media players might know otherwise. Our club media player presents each file as a small thumbnail with the file name underneath, it's just a case of navigatin...

Re: Show reel formats
Hi Arthur, I'm not sure exactly what the question is, but I'll add my comments and experiences below. Regarding presenting films for club presentations or competitions, either a standard definition DVD, high definition Blu-Ray (BD) disc or a USB memory stick should be ideal, depending on the filmmak...
