Re: TO STORYBOARD OR NOT ...
During a recent presentation to the Reading Film and Video Makers Don Fairservice stated that the pros don't storyboard!! Now, Don has a lifetime of experience in editing both documentary and drama, he has won a BAFTA award for Best Film Editing so therefore his opinions and observations are worth l...

Re: Editing AVCHD with Edius 5.12
Tony, I know that many users of E5.12 are presently editing AVCHD after converting it to the CanopusHQ format, a conversion process that seems to be faster than real time - hence a workflow that, timewise, is not too far removed from working by ingesting HDV via Firewire. Edius 5.5 is expected to be...

Re: Blu-ray burner and suitable BD-re discs
I haven't had any problems with Verbatin's BD disks, either recording or playing back on Sony or Panasonic Bluray players.

Re: PROBLEM WITH CAMERA PLAYBACK
It sound very much like dirty heads, after 200 hours use without cleaning this is not surprising. Don't be worried about cleaning the heads as they are quite resilient these days, use a head cleaning tape and run it through for about 10-20 seconds, if necessary do this again. It is likely that there...

Re: HD editing - Simple things to know?
I have to endorse Col's comments regarding the performance of Edius, but although running mine on an 3Ghz i7 based pc with 6GB RAM, the H264 HD software rendering performance using Edius, Premiere CS4, Vegas or Magix software encoders does not approach that of either the Matrox Mini or the Grass Val...

Re: HD editing - Simple things to know?
Michael, The only reason that I burnt Bluray to DVD was that the Mac does not have a Bluray burner and I wanted to see how things panned out. Of course the DVDs are cheaper, but BD-Rs are not that expensive - I remember when I was paying £20 for a CDr! As you say, the future for Bluray is questionab...

Re: HD editing - Simple things to know?
Michael, Toast Titanium Pro will allow you to burn Bluray compatible disks on standard DVDs on the normal DVD drive fitted in the Mac; up to between 30-40 minutes duration is possible on a single layer disk. I see no reason why you shouldn't burn to an external Bluray drive and LG seems to be the ma...

I'm rather busy a the moment, Tom, but why don't you download a copy of the free Sony software and try it for yourself. I'll give it a try ASAP.

Re: Silver discs
Perhaps I've been lucky, but as a user of CD-Rs since they were first introduced and cost £17 trade, I have yet to loose any data. Perhaps the fact that they have been stored in a humidity controled and essentially dark environment has helped.

Re: BVE at Earl's Court
Sony Clip Browser version 2.6, under the tools tab. I haven't had the need to try it so I can't comment on how well it does the job.

Re: BVE at Earl's Court
I too was there on Tuesday and have to agree with Michael as I found it interesting. Regarding the 3D demos; I only looked at one for any period of time so perhaps my comments may differ for other systems, but I found that there was a quite evident flicker on movement across the screen, perhaps it w...

Using Toast 10 Platinum I have burned Bluray compatible disks onto DVDs using the normal MacPro DVD Drive. I canot answer for PC use as mine has a Bluray burner fitted.

Re: AVCHD camcorders
Just a small comment regarding formats: I have to say that I find 1280 x 720 50p in some ways nicer to view than full 1920 x 1080 50i. Viewed at sensible distance, the difference in perceived resolution appears to be minimal, but there is a visible improvement to the smoothness of motion when using ...
