Your First Projector
Just a thought I had for a press photo for a project I'm involved in. It dawned on me that the most appropriate thing to include was my first projector so I'm wondering what was your first projector? Mine was given to me as a christmas present when I was 10 (following months of, "mum, can I hav...

Re: What baffled you when you began filming?
Crucial when beginning film work, never expect greatness from your first 3 tapes! If you have the benefit of learning on cine you'll come to video with a diciplin of tight filming, no un-nessecary filming, edit with the eye before the camera rolls, allow only what extra length per shot that you real...

Re: DIY telecine machines
I never did like Eumig's drive system. They do make excellent quality projectors but the system without a top sprocket puts far too much load on the perforations and as super 8 is single sided perf, this makes for an even more unsteady image in the gate. It can cause frequent jumping especially towa...

Re: Finding Actors
With 25 years experience in dealing with the public one learns to give the customer a good first experience (and every experience after that). It pays to give at least a paragraph in support. Lexmark gave considerably more advice for a scanner problem I had and in all emails the form part was the le...

Re: Finding Actors
Not chuffed with TalentCircle. Their online support limited itself to single sentence responses with the rest of the email being form letter. They didn't make it easy so we just deleted our account to simplify the process of just not wasting any more time with them.

"The Big Gig"- Venue Change & End Of Recession!
Just to let the world know that The Big Gig will be held at the Royal British Legion, Riverside Road, Thurso as per usual. We had booked another venue some months ago but when we went back to update our booking but strangely it had vanished so we booked again, then we got a message saying our event ...

Re: 16:9 or not?
I find it bazaar that a club would go against a format. 16:9 is the same as 1.5 x anamorphic which they probly used in their standard 8mm days (or maybe the boycotted that too). It was the most common wide lens amateurs used. 2x lenses were for the better off. Generally 16:9 isn't used by CFT Group ...

Re: Should competitions only accept new movies?
Generally yes. But if a film has never been entered there should be the oportunity to enter. I suggest a catagory for 'vintage' movies

Re: Should juries "police" film competitions?
Perhaps the problem lies with the orientation of Nordfilm's event itself. Maybe it should be call Promote-Us.com. I would personally be very sceptical of the intertests of a festival or competition that wants entrants to promote it. Surely the reason for entering a festival or competition is to prom...

Re: SHOWCASE FOR SERIOUS VIDEO MAKERS
Ideally speaking we are looking at audience numbers when it comes to getting a film seen. On youtube there are certainly lots of morons but morons exist in all quaters of the world. No matter where a film is shown there is likely to be a moron in the audience. Not only that, where ever people gather...
