Just a bit of nostalgia, but my first Super 8 camera was a Yashica. The model was an electro 8 LD6 and one of the features was a limited backwind facility that enabled you to do a lap dissolve in the camera (something of an obsession with super 8 users at the time). It could also do fades but beyond...

Doesn't the IAC's charitable status preclude having a members only area on the web-site? I've a feeling this cropped up once before.

Mike, I think you have pin pointed what has got my dander well and truly up about this thread namely the apparent negativity of the original question. Perhaps that wasn't the intention but it's how it came across to me and I feel it is being unfair towards Garth who works exceptionally hard to produ...

I'm with you Billy re Diana Rigg. Joking apart, anyone who has ever had anything to do with editing club newsletters or magazines will know how difficult it is to get contributions from people and no amount of cajoling or arm twisting will make any difference. (I speak from personal experience) The ...

After our experiences with the Scottish 8 which attracted little support within Scotland and was frequently (unfairly in my opinion) criticised I don't think you will find many volunteers for this one.

Sorry Fraught but as one of the writers in FVM I disagree with your comments concerning the magazine which I believe has developed considerably under Garth's editorship. Personally I think it's a great magazine and a credit to the IAC. Garth can only print what he receives and please remember that h...

What sad news. I've just watched the tributes on the festival web-site and was struck by how fond everyone was of the festival and also by the comment that this kind of event brings people of different cultures together. I wonder how many people truly realise the massive amount of work that's involv...

My personal rule of thumb is that a film should be just long enough to tell the story. In terms of fiction I think it all comes down to making sure that the script is fully developed before filming starts. If you have an interesting, well written story with good characters, crisp dialogue and a sens...

Last week my computer decided that it didn't want to play anymore and went into a mega sulk. After much hard work by Pat Mahon, which finally involved re-installing XP, things are just about back to normal and it's good to be able to return to this forum. Regarding titles I think they are very impor...

It's all becoming a bit complicated and is compounded by the fact that a lot of people seem to be happy to watch 4 x 3 pictures in the 16 x 9 format and appear to be oblivious to the fact that images are then distorted. I think I said in a previous posting that films shown in the wrong aspect ratio ...

The XM2 is indeed a brilliant camcorder with a fantastic lens that produces brilliantly sharp images. Unfortunately my computer still can't always grasp when the XM2 is actually connected to it. It's an intermittent problem and I haven't a clue what the problem is but that's computers for you.

A lot of it seems to be down to pure ignorance and paranoia. Last week I read about a man who was stopped by three police officers near hyde Park because a member of the public had reported him for taking pictures of women outside a public toilet. In fact he was merely listening to his ipod player w...

Bear with me on this story guys, but for the last fortnight I've been painting the exterior woodwork on my house. On Thursday morning I was having a wasps nest dealt with so painting work had to be temporarily suspended and just at that moment along came the postman with the latest edition of FVM. S...

The trouble is, as suggested by stingman's last posting, that some people look upon a club as a class, rather than a group of like minded enthusiasts working together in a sociable environment for mutual benefit and enjoyment. It is difficult to know what people want, but personally I remain convinc...

It sounds as if the Council might be trying to price local clubs and societies out of their premises so that the Council will then have rooms available that they can rent out to commercial organisations at much higher fees.
