Re: A Bunch of Amateurs
I’m glad to see that the forum is still being supported. A few points from me on this subject. Michael, one of the film festivals you mentioned is still going strong: The Golden Knight Malta International Short Film Festival. https://filmfreeway.com/GoldenKnightMaltainterntionalFilmFestival I submit...

Re: A Bunch of Amateurs
Thanks for telling us, Ken. I’m really looking forward to seeing it. Regarding Bradford Movie Makers’ ‘Oklahoma’ film, as featured in ‘A Bunch of Amateurs’, I was one of the first round BIAFF judges for it a couple of years ago!

Re: congratulations
Many thanks Jon. Yes BFF was a great event. My young star Alex Bullock picked up the award for Best Young Male Actor for ‘Frankie’ and he of course gets to keep the trophy so technically I went home empty-handed but happy nevertheless. Unlike this year’s BIAFF weekend, when none of my nine entries w...

Re: BIAFF 2023
Michael, you don’t have to complete a form if entering films to BIAFF via Film Freeway. I’ve already submitted eight new films this way and it’s great that entry is free of charge to IAC members until 20th December. Regarding the BIAFF weekend it’s really unfortunate that the Saturday is Coronation ...

Thanks Dave.
Tonight I’m pleased to have received confirmation that two of my eleven entries to the Birmingham Film Festival have been Officially Selected: ‘Crush’ and ‘Frankie’.

Re: Entering competitions..
I think that somehow the father of the young actress who stars in Distraction has been able to post the link to the film on lots and lots of ‘Short Film’ websites worldwide. It’s very enterprising of him and if this IS the explanation for the phenomenal viewing figure it’s been a very successful ploy.

Re: Entering competitions..
One of my new films ‘Distraction’ was uploaded to my Vimeo page exactly 3 weeks ago and incredibly it’s already had 1829 views. This is a far higher viewing figure than for many of my films that were uploaded years ago. I have no idea how this has come about!

Re: Entering competitions..
Michael, I rather enjoy receiving and displaying trophies! I certainly agree with you about live screenings of films to audiences being GREATLY preferable to online showings. I couldn't agree more. Someone this year tried to persuade me that having one of my films shown online on the Tuesday evening...

Re: Entering competitions..
Most film competitions and festivals on Film Freeway are not free to enter, and entry fees can be pretty expensive especially when approaching the final deadline. I’ve just entered a new film Distraction into NINE festivals and the only one that was free to enter was BIAFF. The entry fees for the ot...

Re: Entering competitions..
Roger, It’s definitely a good idea to send films to multiple festivals. Frequently you’ll find that while a film is poorly received at one festival it will be acclaimed at another. My film Conrad won a Diamond award at BIAFF 2021 yet it was the only one of 6 films that I sent to the Birmingham Film ...

Re: A really amazing coincidence.
Michael Slowe, you mentioned Woody Allen’s use of a particular font, white on black. The font is named ‘Windsor’ and he’s been using it for over 40 years, usually accompanied by old-fashioned music. I copied his style of credits meticulously for my comedy ‘Blue Lady’ and was disappointed that no-one...

Re: Perseverance works?
Well done Geoff. It’s a hugely powerful film with a bravura, terrifying performance from the leading actor Paul Anthony Kelly.
I hope Hosticide sells well. It deserves to.
