Re: BIAFF 2016 - who's entering?
Hi Michael. We do like to stay over and get the best from the weekend and we do have to do that when it`s a long way from here. But we are going on our first cruise just before BIAFF so it would seem a bit excessive and an extra cost to go away for the weekend just afterwards. We have the dogs to bo...

Re: BIAFF 2016 - who's entering?
Hi Dave and Jan. Nothing is booked yet but as Harrogate is only a 50 minute drive from here we think we will do day visits this time. Probably Saturday and Sunday if possible.

Re: BIAFF 2016 - who's entering?
No films from Phase 4 again this year, only the third blank year since joining the IAC in 1994. We have two new scripts ready to go but it`s become a nightmare getting a team of actors together. Even with stories for just 3 actors at a time, we seem unable to find dates which suit everyone. But we h...

Re: Sad News - Howard Gregory
More sad news from within the IAC ranks. I e-mailed Howard a few times about 5 years ago when I was puzzled by the low volume (relatively speaking) we were getting from recordings made on the new Sony Z5 cameras compared to what we had previously been getting on earlier cameras using the same mics. ...

Re: Are Film Competitions a Lottery?
Michael is absolutely correct! A few years ago, the mini cinemas were usually full and often people were stood at the back of the room as there were no seats left. Our films were always seen by a decent number of people and it made it all worthwhile. But for reasons unknown, the past couple of years...

Re: Pay Per View
I have two very seperate film making areas. One is mainly for shooting weddings, but I also have made a few small corporate videos for local companies and for charities too for which I have been paid. They are videos for which I have no personal connection or knowledge of those involved until they c...

Re: BIAFF - the Festival
I didn`t mean to start a war mentioning the low ceilings, but it IS a problem and several people I saw finally gave up with the manic bobbing heads around trying to read the subtitles and sat through some films that they clearly didn`t follow (reading the programme instead) due to not being able to ...

Re: BIAFF - the Festival
This is a quick message to get things going as I have another wedding to edit. But for starters, it was a great weekend. It turned out to be a longer drive than we thought as traffic was bad both ways due to numerous roadworks and heavy traffic around the M25. It took us over 6 hours going down ther...

Re: BIAFF 2014 Post Mortem
Hi. As someone speaking from a darkened room and still very happily using mini DV tapes without any problems at all, I will add a few more comments. Sorry Michael (Slowe) that I looked for you at the BIAFF interval tea/ coffee confusion scrambles over the weekend and only glimpsed you once as you to...

Re: BIAFF 2014 Post Mortem
Well here are some of my comments. I agree with Bob about the projection and all the juddering across the frame on the Sunday shows. My thoughts were that this was a DVD/ Blu-Ray player issue. I did once see it on a cheap early Blu-Ray model as panning shots "stuttered" noticeably, but I h...

Re: BIAFF 2015 AND BEYOND
Thanks to Dave for his methodical listing of all the IAC weekends "Movie xx" and BIAFFs. There have been some great festivals amongst those, usually on very hot days with the sun streaming in to the cinemas and blackouts struggling to cope. We have been to all of these except for Weymouth,...

Re: BIAFF 2014
Well what a mess up! It`s certainly livened up the forum! But there is no excuse for such an error by the hotel. The IAC can only do their best in sorting it out but it will be a great inconvenience to a lot of people, especially when some have walking difficulties. We purposefully left it late to b...

Re: BIAFF 2014
Perhaps I should say to Michael that to me it does depend on the type of films you make as to what rating you predict and what you actually get. You do work mostly in the documentary category Michael, though I know that you have worked on some fiction films too. You have your own style (as we and ma...

Re: BIAFF 2014
I thought that I might be the first to post on here with some results, but I was beaten to it it seems. We just made the one film in 2013, The Contract . It had (as always) had a huge amount of effort, time and care taken on it. I hoped for a 4 star for it, but our results during the past few years ...

Hi Dave; Thanks for that. We don`t see "Tripod" so knew nothing about it. I read the tributes on the Southport link you posted. His latest film "Ransom" was in the Burnley programme of course which is why the message of his death appeared at the show. Thanks for the congratulatio...
