Re: Ideas on how to destroy old film?
I worked in a 16mm and 35mm film lab for 35 years. When reels of film, often old rushes, had to be disposed of, we just had to drop it into a skip. It was unwound from bobbins or reels and the metal can re-used, but I don`t know of any way film can be destroyed in a quick, mass disposal kind of way....

Re: The Phase 4 Fiction Film Competition
Thanks to all of you making comments on the forum. The feedback from people who rang or sent e-mails after our show, has been very good. A few minor suggestions for tweaks to improve things which are different for each person. Such as impossible things like: "Could it start earlier?" or &q...

Re: The Phase 4 Fiction Film Competition
Hi everyone. This is just a short update for the people who would like to know the results of our competition, which no doubt will include the people who supported us with a film entry. A report has been sent to the IAC webmaster, Jan and should arrive on the site at some point and a full write up o...

Re: Sony HVR A1 camera
Thanks for the comments everyone, both on here and sent to me privately. I checked Tom`s link to the net which brings up an amazing number of issues with error codes on Sony cameras. 32:11 comes up many dozens if not hundreds of times on all different camera models going back several years. If there...

Sony HVR A1 camera
This is an unusual place to find me on the technical pages, but I have a problem and wonder if anyone can offer opinions and advice. If you have received and read your new FVM magazine, you will see that I write this month about our son`s wedding which I shot in Greece on August 2nd. I won`t repeat ...

Re: The Phase 4 Fiction Film Competition
As you will no doubt have read on the IAC home page, our festival show has now been rearranged for November 20th. The flood which affected the theatre where the show was to be held, caused me a lot of extra work! It was on the Wednesday evening before the planned Sunday show, when I got the call lef...

Re: The Phase 4 Fiction Film Competition
URGENT NEWS about the PHASE 4 SHOW! Well talk about disasters! I have individually e-mailed the competition entrants and all the potential audience members who I can think of, but this message is another back-up contact for a bit more insurance. I had a phone call last night from the theatre manage...

Re: The Phase 4 Fiction Film Competition
Hello to you all. This is a quick interim message to keep you all informed on what is happening with our competition and show. We did the film judging on Saturday and I have now selected the films for the Sunday programme, included here below. I am individually e-mailing all the people who have been...

Re: The Phase 4 Fiction Film Competition
Hi everyone. Just an update for you. The competition entries have slowly trickled in. As always it seems that many people leave these things until the last day or two. With only 10 days to go, We are at present down on the numbers of entries from the last competition we held in 2008. (Some entries r...

Re: Film Festival Time Limits
On running times... Can I add that this year as an experiment, we decided that the PHASE 4 fiction film competition should have NO TIME LIMIT. Although most of us (including ourselves) rarely go up to the 30 minute mark, I know that there are a few films which do run over that length. There are seve...

The Phase 4 Fiction Film Competition
Hi everyone who loves to make fiction films! I am sure you will have read about us running our fiction competition again in 2010. It is mentioned on the IAC home page and was in the FVM magazine in May and will also be mentioned in the next issue in September. But to try and make this a successful y...

Re: The IAC Star Ratings
There has been a lot of sense talked on this thread from Ned and Willy. Ned said: I believe that categorisation by genre is much better than just an open free for all. Yes butterflys v railways is not easy but they are both dealing with a "real life" situation and share many basic similari...

Re: The IAC Star Ratings
To make myself clearer; I know that Judging is a thankless task! I have done it many, many, times! I am also not suggesting that anyone is being paid one penny for doing it. Volunteers are needed and without the freely given time of those who organise an event, view, check and categorise the movies ...

Re: The IAC Star Ratings
I said in conversations at BIAFF that I had some comments to make on the STAR rating system and at last, here they are. The star system is similar to what we had in the old TEN BEST. People understood it then and what the stars meant. When I joined the IAC in 1994, I must admit that their grading sy...
