Re: How might BIAFF entries be judged?
Tim said: My first concern is the idea that only films scoring more than 18 points go through to the next round. It is just conceivable that in a film where some peope just don't "get it", the scores might be 5,5,4,1,1,1 - 17 points although half the panel thought it was worthy of four or ...

Re: Setting up an editing studio.
Here is the latest on the search for a new PC to edit HD. I don`t know what I should expect to pay for the cost of the actual build, in other words, labour. Col gave me the prices of each item and it appears from this that about £500 has been added on quote 1 for the actual building of it. I don`t k...

Re: How might BIAFF entries be judged?
There have been lots of interesting follow-up comments to what has been said on here earlier, some of those points raised by myself. I wanted to clarify a couple of things and to add something to what Tom has just posted. Ned said: "..many amateurs seem to want poor films to be rewarded and res...

Re: Setting up an editing studio.
UPDATE: Well I copied the list which Col placed on this forum and after removing the prices, e-mailed it to a specialist computer editing company within easy reach of us here, asking for a quote. I have just received a reply this morning. There were one or two component changes to Cols list includin...

Re: Setting up an editing studio.
Hi Mike and Col. Thanks for all the information and to Col for a very detailed requirements list. It is greatly appreciated. I will print out your posting on here and then investigate what the local computer shop can do and what they say about their prices including their charges for assembly and of...

Re: Setting up an editing studio.
Hi Mike and Col. Thank you for your replies. I will try to give more info without this being a long and boring saga. My first encounter with editing video on a PC was over 10 years ago. I remember going into PC World and asking about it around 1999 and no-one knew what I was talking about! Some coll...

Re: Setting up an editing studio.
Hi to all you technical people out there. I am now looking to update my PC for HD editing. I know that there are those of you out there who know lots about the technical specifications of these things, which I don`t! Although interest in HD in my neck of the woods (the wilds of bleak Yorkshire) seem...

Re: How might BIAFF entries be judged?
To return to the original thread... I note what several people have been saying about who the judges should/ could be and how they should be qualified. Michael mentions using professionals as one solution and though this could be a good idea, we should be very cautious . Several years ago when Phase...

Re: How might BIAFF entries be judged?
I just thought that I would now add here that I have drawn the attention of the competition manager, David Newman, to this thread on the forum. I don`t know if he follows material written on here, so thought it only right and proper that I should e-mail him directly to let him know about it. I have ...

Re: How might BIAFF entries be judged?
I would like to thank recent messages added on here. At least we have some serious discussions now going on which is good. To give further food for thought, each year in May, Wakefield has a week long drama festival. There are 7 plays, a different one each night performed by 7 different drama groups...

Re: How might BIAFF entries be judged?
There is apparently a saying which people e-mail to me, which says: "If you always do what you`ve always done, then you`ll always get what you`ve always had." In other words, if we don`t change any part of the judging system, it will always remain as it is now. HIGHLY controversial. I acce...

Re: How might BIAFF entries be judged?
Many people reading this will know that I am a bit obsessive about movies. Movies are the equivalant of my sport where people live and breathe it and "getting it right" is very important. So I was awake for hours last night going through the logistics of the idea I posted on here, which so...

Re: How might BIAFF entries be judged?
As I started the current judging discussions from BIAFF 2011, perhaps I should start the ball rolling. I appreciate Dave posting this new thread to hopefully come up with something. I do remember Dave starting something similar in the days of letter writing a few years back, though I don`t think we ...

Re: DISCUSS BIAFF 2011 RESULTS
I didn`t see the pebble shot either in "Dancer." Perhaps you were recalling a previous edit Dave? BIAFF was once again a weekend of highs and lows. This time many more lows than usual! I cannot recall so many people complaining during the intervals about the ratings and judging...but first...

Re: Tabbed Music Copyright Issues
Hi Tom.
There have been no holographic stickers since the middle of last year. I still wish they would do an annual licence instead of having to get them individually every time.
